I had him for only one semester of Russian language, whereas I had Tittler for 3+ semesters and am lined up for a lot more with Marina. This guy is ADORABLE and distinguished at the same time. Great speaker, great professor, and a very fair grader. He'll encourage you, and do his best to help you when you come to him.

Comment:

Loewen is a very good professor and very engaging with the class. He's extremely knowledgeable about Russian language and studies, and if you're having a problem with something he tries his best to make sure it's clear. He's relatively easier than other language teachers too. Highly recommended.

Comment:

In Loewen's language and literature classes he is willing to talk to students and give good advice on subjects inside and outside the classroom. The professor genuinely cares about the students' grades and work. Students who have Loewen understand that he's very knowledgeable and very approachable. Don't hesitate to ask questions and for advice.

he's a great teacher. the class is very difficult and there is a lot of reading but loewen makes it really interesting. the class discussion is great. he's also very helpful in and out of the classroom. he gives great feedback. he's awesome. i highly recommend him.

You will not survive in this class if you do NOT read. And I'm talking 1500+ pgs. of Tolstoy/Dostoevsky novels+addit. readings. Very interesting class discussions. Raises many philosophical reflections. Prof. guides each class w/ great flow. Be prepared for each class. And beware of POP quizzes (easy 1 question, but very unexpected)

Dr. Loewen, always gives the class a prepared presetation that is interesting and effective. He certainly is willing to engage his classes in conversation that provide a positive learning environment. He does expect you to have done the reading for that day and to stay up to date with work assigned. I would recommend him highly.

Guy is pretty boring but overall the class is decent. Alot of reading but you can bs since most conversations become very general. Helpful and pretty clear, Loewen atleast tries unlike most of the faculty here.

Nice guy who tries to make class interesting, but by the time finals come...you're still wondering what it is you were supposed to learn. Not too hard overall, just be careful how you cite (even if you mean to be honest) he's too strict on them.

He is a very nice person, and tries to be funny. However, as far as his teaching goes, not so good. He talks a lot, yet there is much misunderstanding. Too much work, and I still haven't learned anyting in the class.I wish I didn't take the class.

Too many assigments and readings but they aren't so bad. Loewen is a really nice guy, cares about students but isn't fit to be a Hist prof. He really knows little to nothing about history. I'm sure he's a great Russian language prof though.

Amazingly astute. He knows his stuff, he makes every class interesting, keeps on top of his students. He actually cares about what you think. Makes fun games so the subject doesn't bore you.
