I changed my major because of Ed. He is an extremely knowledgable, respected and sincere professor; a great resource to have. He treats everyone respectfully and as an adult. There is a lot of material to learn but his lectures put it all together. Take CHM & PSY 1st, I didn't, it was tough but I survived. BONUS you get to go camping!!

Great professor, he loves to fart all over campus. Make sure you go on his trips. The curve is enormous and on a .ca grading scale.

Ed is a tough professor and is equaled by the difficulty of this class. He does curve depending on class performance, tried to get class average to a C+/B- range. You must go to every lecture and take notes. Also you need to spend adequate time in the lab. This class is not easy but you get the grade you earn.

Great professor, swears in class and has a good sense of humor. Class is not difficult. Lecture attendance is not mandatory, but is helpful. Lab is also easy, computer quiz questions are right off a powerpoint you are allowed to study beforehand. 90% of test material is straight off the lecture powerpoint, and the rest is covered in lab.

I changed my major to geology because of this class! Gives a lot of interesting real life stories about the field. Go to lab and read the notes (they're all online) and there's no way you can't pass.

This is a crazy hard class! If you havent taken at least one chemistry class you will be lost most of the class! Worst T.A in the history of the world, as we were learning the material so was she! Ed is an overall great guy, but is gets lost in his own lectures when he decides to go on numerous tangents about irrelevant material.

Ed's lectures are not helpful; you'll be better off reading the books yourself. He gave a study guide for our final and the final contained absolutely nothing that was on study guide. The Teacher assistants's this year were not helpful either; they acted as though you should have already known information.

He knows a lot about the subject, but is not very good at explaining it to others. It is not an "easy A" as some would have you believe. You need to do the required additional lab or you WILL FAIL (he stresses this a lot).

He's a good guy, but a horrible professor. If you're not interested in Geology, for your own sake; DON'T TAKE IT. One of the thoughts classes I've had. Powerpoint slides aren't clear. Syllabus isn't updated. Tough class. Don't recommend it for anyone unless you have a passion for Geology.

Mineralogy: I like Ed as a person, but as a professor he isn't the best. He tends to go off on tangents so the lectures are pointless. You learn the majority of the material in lab. The exams set you up to fail, but he throws in so much extra credit and curves the class a ridiculous amount that you will pass it. Memorize the minerals.

Straight forward with what he wants. Make sure you to go the labs, they will help on the tests as well as they are mandatory. He will help willingly when asked. Slightly intimidating so don't make him mad. Tests are hard if you don't like Geology and don't pay attention. You can skate by the a C just doing labs and going over lectures online.

Tests were a bit challenging but were curved. Final grade was composed of three tests and lab score. The labs are boring. If you are not a great test taker it would be easy to do bad in the course.

He's an above average professor. He explains the material well, and he's accessible if you need help understanding it. You have to attend lab every week or you hurt your grade a lot, but lecture attendance is not mandatory. And it's worth it to attend the lab anyway, since he curves your score at the end. I recommend him.

Petrology is crazy hard but Ed made it fun and interesting. Make sure you know your stuff from Mineralogy...super important. Also..when on the the field trips DO NOT cross the roads until says it's ok...this is a big deal to him :) He is an awesome professor who loves Geology and it shows in the way he teaches it. If you have a question..ask him

Very interesting class, but if you don't like to study or plan on not studying don't even bother taking the class. He gives pop quizzes which aren't included in your grade but if you do good on them he will curve your final grade. Overall, great professor!

Very hard class you really have to study daily and attend every single LAB and do well on the weekly quizzes. Gives random in class quizzes as well to see if you are reading the textbook. Every class is a powerpoint, he is very clear and always willing to help if you want the help. If you pay attention and read the book you'll do good. Great Teach!

He was a great prof. He lectures from his notes which you can print out. tests are very close to what it says on notes. If you miss class you will miss the pictures that he presents and then you won't be able to know them on the test. His tests are fair. There is a lab which takes up time and theres a quiz after lab study before taking the quiz
