As she'll insist you call herProfa, was frankly the most annoying Profa I've had at Smith. Babied and misgendered everyone, aired students' personal business, forced participation, made us stretch before lessons. I couldn't rent any of the memoirs and had to buy half, and she did not warn for graphic content. Class was half online due to COVID.

This is the best class I've taken at Smith. Profa expects a lot because she gives a lot. She covers the history, sociology, theory and ideology of race and racism in the U.S. No, it's not an easy A. But why would anyone at Smith expect that? Anyway, it's all laid out in the syllabus.

I have never in my life had to undertake the amount of work that professor candelario assigns. It's physically impossible to do it all if you have ANYTHING else going on in your life (kids, job, any other classes). She's crazy. It's a nightmare. Do not take this class. I have never gotten below an A and I have a feeling this might be the one.

This class was amazing, Candelario is the best lecturer I have ever encountered, she knows her stuff by heart and she is really fabulous at keeping students engaged. The readings were fascinating and she makes everyone in the class really care about the subject. This was the best blend of history and sociology, one of my favorite classes ever.

Prof. Candelario has been my favorite class at Smith. She LOVES POC and is really into creating social change and making students re-think about race, class, and gender. Honestly, she changed my life. Each class is like a Ted Talk- so inspiring, empowering, and motherly at the same time. a lot of work? Yes, but she makes you care about it.

This class is so unorganized--gave 6 version of the syllabus because kept rearranging it. The group project was the most sloppy assignment I've ever received & she has absolutely no respect for her students time. 4 required out of class attendances, rescheduled classes during dinner, going over class time, group meeting every week & 100+pg/week

Ginetta is a hard professor to take a class with - she expects a lot from you, but if you put in the effort she will definitely notice. She's an amazing professor who does everything in her power to make you truly think critically.

Ginetta is an awesome professor. Truly, her class will change the way you look at race in the US forever. The class has a lot of homework but is VERY rewarding. Only had to do a midterm, final, and final project that counted for your grade. And she's a fair grader.

I loved her class. No need to say the class is extremely hard, BUT it is worthy I learned a lot. I agree she takes her time to grade, but we are in college and knowledge is more than just a number. I recommend this class.

Ginetta's an AWESOME professor. This really is one of those classes everyone should take. Ginetta sets the bar high form day one. It changes how you see the world and asks you to question the status quo at all times. Maybe it was a negative experience for someone who doesn't really want to confront U.S. racism and imperialism this deeply.

This class lived up to its excellent reputation! Professor Candelario challenged us to learn a whole new perspective on US history and to think critically about our current social reality. There was a lot of reading but if you did it, you'd realize how much her lectures built on that. I left each class with new ideas and inspired to learn more.

I heard that her Ethnic Minorities class would be a life changing experience but it ended up being really bad. She missed a ton of classes, assigned so much reading that we never reviewed, gave ridiculous assignments and classes were unstructured and a waste of time.

I heard such good things about this professor, but my class was a total bust. She didn't grade our papers, and there was a ton of reading- none of which we discussed explicitly. The second half of the syllabus was thrown out the window. Completely stifled my interest in LAS (SOC).

Ginetta was a fabulous professor and one of the few that I still remember, 8 years after graduating! Her class totally changed my outlook on ethnicity and race in America, as well as revamped my History knowledge. She's tough but fair, and will challenge you, in a good way! She really cares about her students.

Ginetta is by far the hardest professor I've had at Smith thus far, but also the one that has taught me the most. Her "ethnic minorities in america" class is AMAZING..it changed my life. Her class is completely worth the hard work.

Ginetta is very challenging, sometimes frustratingly so because she refuses to give you the straight answers to all the questions raised in her classes, but that's what I love about her teaching. She's brilliant, passionate, yet approachable and inspirational. I recommend her to everyone.

I love the readings but when I went to class I felt like there wasnt enough interaction in the class. It was too much of a lecture. I didnt have time to regurgitate all the information she was given us. It was an overload. She is really passionate about her class. I didn't like the set up of the syllabus. There is no room for mistakes or recovery
