Comment:
Professor Chang has been one of my favorite Chinese professors at BU so far. It's easy to see how passionate he is about the material and he gives really interesting anecdotes from his own life during class. The only thing is that tests are quite detail oriented so it's easy to lose a lot of points that way, so be prepared to read texts carefully.

He is very nice and knowledgeable. His ppts are text-heavy but he posts them online. READ THE BOOK. He tests directly from it. The only problem I had with this course was the testing. The midterms are nitpicky, he says not to study too in depth but the tests say otherwise. A lot of memorization. Work hard for a good grade.

I had him as my Chinese 311 professor and I absolutely adore him! Class is always interesting and the lessons he prepares are all quite interesting. He's quite entertaining, lively, and PATIENT! I just wish there was more time/room for speaking in class in addition to the weekly oral drills. Other than that, best Chinese professor one could ask for

Material is dry but Prof. Chang adds a lot of good stories and does a very thorough job of explaining everything. Best Chinese teacher I've had at BU.

Great professor with a great personality teaching a pretty mundane subj. I have never been exceptionally interested with the language but Professor Chang made it a lot more interesting than previous Chinese professors. He is kind, patient, fair, and easy-going. As long as you put in some effort and go to class regularly, it'll be an easy A.

Great class, actually learned a lot. Chang does a great job of lecturing and incorporates oral presentations in the class so that you're also learning from your peers. Exams were more than fair and he was very lenient with grading. Term paper was actually fun to write. Overall, great class and I would definitely recommend Prof. Chang

He was a good professor but he doesn't do a lot of translating the text into english which made things difficult since you had to interpret the meanings on your own. Other than that, hes very fair. Lenient with handing in hw and likes to relate the language back to culture such as why characters look a certain way. Recommend for higher level class

Prof. Chang is extremely enthusiastic about teaching. Very laid back. Easy class compared to other LC classes. Doesn't really take attendance, but I think it helps your grade a lot to show up. Ask a lot of questions and you'll do fine!

This guy is probably one of the most interesting professors I had at BU. Reminds me of my uncle. He's very patient, humorous and very passionate about the language, particularly about the writing system and its evolution (he loves calligraphy). His English is very good when explaining things. Would love to take another class taught by him.

This was an interesting class even for a native speaker. I took this class for fun. This man was a very knowlegable guy. He knows so much about Chinese culture and language. which contribute so much this boring nature class. I think this class was great, and I learned a lot from. Kinda regret that I did not become a Chinese minor.

I hate this man with a passion. He assumes EVERYONE is a native speaker, and if you arent, you end up sitting there very confused. Work load and class are ok, but he is no help at all.

Very poor. BU's Chinese department needs to escape the shadow of Gubo and Palanka and develope a solid course curriculum with hightened emphasis on tones.
