Comment:
DO NOT TAKE ANY COURSES FROM HER. She is not easily understood, as English is not her first language. I can understand the harshest of accents especially after time, however, this is my third time taking ECON 212 with her and I've yet to get the accent under control. She is worth switching programs over.

Joy was very difficult to understand. And by that I mean students who said they had come from her home country had a hard time understanding what she was saying. Be prepared to have your ears wide open and receive a lower grade than the work you put in for. Study really hard!! And do the homework she assigns. It will save your grade.

Joy was my least favourite professor at VIU. I am happy to be done taking classes with her, after completing both Micro/Macro classes. I felt she did not prepare us well for tests or relay course material well. She is very hard to understand, as English is not her first language. She is a nice lady but I do not feel she is a good teacher at all.

I had Joy for both 212 & 312, Her tests are very straight forward. She covers all the necessary material very quickly and efficiently. I went to her office for additional help/issues several times and each time she took the time to make sure that I fully understood! She is one of my favourite teachers!!

She was the only option for Macroeconomic course for Fall term, so I decided to try even though I read all things that people wrote here. I dropped the class immediately. I have heard many accents on campus, but her English is really poor. Maybe she is a nice lady, but I dont want to suffer all course if I cant get what she is saying. Sorry.

If you have her for economics, I would suggest dropping the class immediately. Its hard enough to learn on its own, but when the professor can not convey the information in understandable English well good luck.

Her lectures are awful and very hard to understand. Read the textbook and get way more out of it. Went to ask her some questions in her office and she wasn't helpful. Waits until reading break to give out the homework for the whole course. Would never take again.

She does not have a basic grasp of the English language. I've dropped this course 3 times now because I couldn't handle her within the first week. Cannot emphasize enough how badly you should avoid her as a professor.

Organized, lectures are easy to understand if you've read the chapter before hand. Is a bit difficult to understand so I suggest you definitely read the textbook and/or youtube videos.

Joy is incredibly hard to understand as she doesnt speak English well. When she writes examples on the board it is very confusing to follow along with, and her lectures arent great. Be prepared to read the textbook and watch lots of YouTube videos and still get a C- on tests. Avoid her class if you can, your GPA will suffer if you take ECON 211.

She makes her own slideshows and hardly covers the material in the text book then tests you on the material she did not cover. Get ready to do some reading on your own! She is EXTREMELY hard to understand and usually does not make a lot of sense when she is lecturing. I wouldn't take another class from Joy again.

She just hit my eye with her laser pointer. Cant understand her. I am sure she is a great person but maybe being a professor is not best suited for her. I dread this class......

Difficult to understand, gives out hard exams and quizzes. Her class was incredibly frustrating. I'm sure she is a good person, but she doesn't make a good prof at all.

Joy is seriously a bad teacher. She does not speak proper English, she makes test with materials not covered in class, and is overall one of the worst professors at VIU.

I had Joy for both ECON 211 and 212, and in both cases I found her to be a decent teacher. My primary advice to anyone taking her course is to maintain paper notes and sit up close, as she is a fan of visual aids and graphs to explain course material. All in all, I would attend her class again.

Worst person in a teaching capacity that I have ever witnessed. Lectures are incredibly boring, you ask her a question about an assignment and she just asks you the question again and gives you zero clarification what so ever, puts in no effort to help you understand. Avoid at all costs, it's not worth it.

Ignoring her sometimes difficult to hear voice and accent, she is a flat out bad teacher. She's a kind person don't get me wrong but she shows millions of confusing examples without good explanations and constantly erases and rewrites code so it's impossible to take notes. Doesn't explain anything in detail, very very hard class with her.

Her lectures are frequently confusing, so be prepared to teach yourself. Except you may not even know what parts you need to learn until the last minute, so good luck. She taught us the most difficult part of the course 2 days before the midterm and gave it a weight of 23% on the exam. She posted related assignment answers 6pm the night before.
