Gertzog is a fascinating man. You're sure to learn a great deal from him if you show up to class and don't fall asleep. He goes at a slow pace, but he has some great info. He gives possible exam questions and you prepare for all of them, so basically you should get an A.

Great professor. You can ask a lot of great questions. He knows his stuff. Really helped that I took his class during an election year. He gives you questions in advance so no surprises.

Granted Congressional politics is not the most exciting subject matter, but I'm pretty sure elevator music would seem exciting compared to Gertzog.

Boring. Exams require you to regurgitate information with a great deal of detail. I had him twice a day for a semester- not a good idea.

Had him for Congressional Politics. Knows his stuff but has almost zero charisma. Lectures were so long and so dull they were almost painful. Exams are a beast, essays only and you have to hit every single point he's looking for or you lose points and he is brutal grader. If you need PoliSci classes, take Levine, I just can't recommend this guy.

Very smart man knows everything about the presidents. Need to do ALOT of memorizing for his exams because there all essay based but the answers are clear in the notes and textbook. You need to study before the night before and put some effort in. What do you expect though its a 300 level class, would recommend it to Poly Sci majors

He's older guy he gets boring but clearly knows what hes talking about. fair grader all essay exams need alot of details to do well, just regurgitate what he says in class. Need text books for exam questions but don't need to do the readings. Gives about 10 questions before the exam 3 essays are on the exams. Alot of memorizing but achievable A

He's very intelligent. Attendance is mandatory because he randomly calls 30 names every class. Sometimes extremely boring but if you pay attention and write down everything, you'll do well on the exams. The other essay questions are from the readings and you just have to read the relevant chapters. Fair grader. Adorable man, loved him.

Take notes in class and attend every time. He only calls 10 names in the beginning and 10 at the end of each class. Write down what he says then copy it to the exam verbatim for a guaranteed A. Only one question on each exam (gives 10 in advanced, only uses 3 on the exam) is on the text, and you can find them easily. Smart dude, clear and concise

Took Gertzog for American Presidency. Class is extremely time consuming. Gertzog gives you 9 questions a week before the final, of which 3 will be on the exam. Because he does this, he grades the exams very difficulty. Also, the answers to the questions he gives are very long and take along time to memorize. 80-87 B, 88-89 B+. Wouldnt recommend

Does attendance, but only calls 20 names each class so attendance is mandatory, but you might get lucky and not have your name called. He gives you ten questions the week before class and will randomly pick 3 of them for the exam. You only need the book to look for the answers to his answers. I recommend this class for a guaranteed B/B+

A very smart man that lacks charisma. He knows his stuff, but has a hard time conveying it back to the class. His tests are easy to study for, but time consuming, but really are just a set of lists. If you want a class where you need to think deeply on your essays, Gertzog's not for you.

Gertzog is a very brilliant man. He is one of very few professors at rutgers that has a deep understanding of the course material that he teaches. I had him for congressional pol and he knew things about the behind the scenes goings on in congress that they don't write in textbooks. He's personally spoken to and interviewed over 70 congressmen!

Bit boring. All concepts quoted from books. Not for thinkers. He asks questions like "I named 6 things in class, name all 6 and their importance." If you copy exactly what he says in class, your gold. If you give examples that are pertinent but not his examples, you lose points. He always picks exam questions that took longest to go over in lecture

Had him for 304 & 306, and never missed class. Just take good notes, and don't bother to do the readings- they are extensive and unecessary. Prior to exams he'll give you a list of questions to memorize- look through notes and readings for answers, and prepare good essays. You can easily get an A, even if it's not that interesting of a class!
