Seems a bit senile. Knowledgeable, but loses track of his lecture and grades rather harshly.

Anyone who does not understand how to work hard will complain about this professor. As stated, he is one of the world's preeminent anthropologists. Very knowledgable, helpful and demanding. Unlike the professors that the baseball and hockey teams sign up for, this guy teaches a first rate class, in a first class manner. Complainers wanted easy.

By far the worst Professor I have encountered at the University of Maine. Don't take this man's class, you'll regret it!

Comment:
Incompetent lecturer and draconian grader. His lectures are often disjointed, confused, and tedious and in his exams he asks for a higher quality of understanding of the material than he himself displays during his own lectures. He's a friendly old man but a horrible professor.

Comment:
Of all the professors I had at UMO, Professor Acheson was by far my favorite - he seemed to generally enjoy his work and actively engaged and challenged his students. For me, he made a potentially horribly boring subject interesting. He also went way above and beyond after my engagement in helping me in my job search. Great guy, great professor.

Very dry lectures, he lost his place several times. A student in our class kept correcting him ha ha, I'm sure she did well. He's a real nice man but I found it too hard to follow only in that the outline and flow of the class was a little odd. But it's only a state college so you get what you pay for.

Very difficutl teacher. Hard to figure out what the professor was looking for in the content of the class. Graded the papers himself and very harshly.

I thought he was a very good professor. A lot of students at UMaine seem to have a mean streak. They want to be entertained all the time. I regret coming to UMaine not because of the professors but the people in Orono Maine are sarcastic, rude, and insulting. During the tour they act real nice but once they got you here watch out.

This guy is great. He is one of the most famous anthropologists in the country for a damn good reason. He works hard and demands his students to work hard too. If you're a slacker, don't take this course.

I like Acheson, but his class I hate. His stories and examples are more interesting than the lectures. I have to take this class for my major, but I wish I didn't. It is writing intensive and I hate writing essays. If you aren't like me, you should do okay if you take the notes, read the material and get the essays done on time.
