Comment:
Very seriously consider taking a different class. If you get a seat in the back for this one, drop it right away. Hancock speaks quietly, is monotone, and posts no notes online. Struggling to pay attention and take good notes in 90% of the battle, though it's not anywhere as easy as it sounds.

Comment:
Hancock is very well versed in the EU, especially Germany and Sweden. Provides detailed slide shows for lectures. Very little time for discussion/participation. No need to read the text except for clarification. Tests were predictable and passable. Learned a lot in this class. Definitely recommend it and him.

Comment:
Hancock is one boring professor. He gets up there, rabbles for an hour, rarely asks for class participation, and does not go off the textbook. The bad thing is that since he d/n rely on the textbook, you have to go off the class lecture. But his lectures put you to sleep!! DO. NOT. TAKE!

Comment:
Class should be called comparative political history. If you think you're going to compare modern politics between countries you'll only be right about 3 or 4 classes. The rest is "paths to the present," which is basically history lectures (painfully boring). Personally, I hate history but this might sound good to you. Good attend is key

I don't know how, but I got an A in this course. 82 on the midterm (90 class average), B+ on the paper, and my life passed before my eyes on the final I was so sure I failed it. I guess the key to this class is not to skip, do your best to pay attention (good luck there), and take advantage of extra credit.

Midterm, paper, final exam. Fairly easy grading. Lectures can be a bit boring, but he knows his stuff. Not a bad class, but not terribly exciting. Pay some attention in class and study the review sheet and you're set.

Intersting lectures if you have some interest in the field, or you'll probably find them boring. Only midterm/final and one paper as far as assignments go. Grading is slightly harder than normal. Luckily though, almost everything you will need to know is from study sheets or lecture. I didn't open the book once.

Had him for Western European Politics. He's a really nice guy, but it's hard to pay attention in class because he drones. You'll do fine grade-wise as long as you study some. He brings in great guests. I would take his class again...and bring a crossword puzzle.

Probably the nicest teacher i've had. His lectures are pretty boring, and he can be hard to hear, but write down what he says in lecture, and thats exactly what will be on the test. Use empirical data in your writing and he'll love you...especially if its about sweeden.

Gets off track like nothing I've ever witnessed. Talks more to himself than to the class so you can't understand half of what he says. Great about changing due dates.

Hancock is pretty good and pretty easy. Yes, he gets off track like nobody's business, but he is knows alot about the topic, is willing to listen to students and move due dates, and will help you understand the material.

If you take him, you'll do well gradewise - I've made 100s on his exams without studying that much, and he is open to changing the grading scale. But those who truly want to learn, look out: he'll talk about his author-friends, speeches at other schools, and his health issues, but his lectures do not make sense and he drones in a quiet whisper.

super nice guy...but he's over the hill...he says that the textbook is wrong- don't ask him about proportional representation...the book clearly stated that they produce multiple party systems, but he believed differently- i practically threw the book at him.

One of the nicest teachers I've ever had, period. It's true, he's a bit rambly, but that chuckle of his makes everything ok. His tests are really easy too, if you study a bit.

Probably the nicest teacher at Vandy. Very bright and helpful. The class can be boring, but it's designed that way. If you can't pay attention to the differences between French and German political campaigns, you shouldn't be a PSCI major anyway.
