Comment:
Would recommend avoiding this professor if possible. The only good thing is that you won't need to buy books. I found him aloof, and inflexible. Frequently strays from the syllabus and leaves you unprepared. Not very approachable, like I was an inconvenience to him, which was a problem because his communication and lectures were poor.

Taking his class right now, and cannot stand his method of teaching... If that's what you'd call it. Be ready to self teach, and work FAR outside of the curriculum of instruction. No syllabus or schedule to speak of, and instructor may be knowledgeable in some areas but could not teach most topics efficiently. I would recommend other instructors.

Possibly the unclearest, most self taught, uninformative class I've ever had. Tests are easy because they're open book, until the last one, which he doesn't give study guide.Ifyou'relooking to actually learn the content, and not just hear his personal opinions on business, politics, and whatever he feel s like talking about, take another teacher.

Very easy class. He is very knowledgeable, but he would be better sticking to the higher levels of networking classes, instead of a basic CIS class. Tests are open book. I can say that I did not learn much at all in this class.

Terrible. So boring. Horrible grading system, pointless class. Could've actually learned something in this class if he didn't just show youtube videos and play on google maps.

James is an excellent teacher who will go the extra mile for those students who do the same. Don't have much interest? Neither will he. Eager to learn and excel? Make it known and he will give you his best.

James is a great instructor and he really knows his stuff. He very passionate about what he teaches. James doesn't give study guides for the tests, so you really need to study. Lab days were very helpful and interesting too.

There are 2 cisco instructors. This one works best if you have prior IT knowledge and like to learn things by hands on figuring it out and then asking if you have an issue. It works for me, but not for some. I preferred it over long lectures (his lectures are 45min max)

This guy is a joke! Plays favorites; no instruction; you will be clearly on your own if you wish to learn with this guy. You will self-teach - that is all you will get. If instructor surveys were filled out after grades he would probably not still be teaching at this school? Sincerely attempt to find other alternatives.

James is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about his field. He is full of real-life experiences to relate with most of the material and made the class exciting. He would bring in job listings and had a former student, now very successful, come in and speak with us.

Excellent instructor. Has always been helpful to me, even when I wasn't one of his students. He's VERY enthusiastic about the material (as well as forensics) and really wants his students to do well. Would definitely take again!

Does very little prep work for the class. Uses material from instructors who taught this class in previous semesters. Is very "old school" in terms of perspective; very pro-military, for instance. Also, a student is either "in" or "out" of his circle.

Be ready to self-teach. Even though it is obvious he is familiar with the material, he does not impart it in a coherent manner. Am bracing myself for the next class with him.

Had Lewis for Cisco & Computer Security in '02 & '03. Instruction was very erratic. Often had nervous/hyper/harried/frenzied demeanor that made students uneasy. Spends way too much time talking about himself. Not surprising there continues to be major problems with him.
