I had this professor during the Spring Covid-19 semester so a lot was changed in the class to ensure everyone's success. It was confusing at times but I managed to get through it. The final and midterm were opinion based in my opinion and I thought that there was more than one correct answer. For a 100 level class, the grading was a bit too harsh.

Amazing lectures. Just be sure to do the readings before each class. Exams are quite difficult and unfortunately it got the best of me during this pandemic. However, he is fair and will give a big curve if he feels students did not do well. It's a lot of pressure to do well since you're graded based on three things: a midterm, final, and essay.

I figured this was going to be an easy freshman class instead I felt like I was in a graduate class. Everything was based on his personal opinion. His lectures/ presentations didn't correlate with the exams and neither did the textbook. You must pay attention to his opinions if you want to pass. the tests will ask "during class we discussed..."

Extremely inconsiderate and insensitive. I had multiple family members that passed because of the pandemic and he knew this. Proceeded to make us download this lockdown browser and take the final on camera while it was timed. Which all we failed so bad he had to curve it 22-24 points each. Two tests, multiple-choice, one essay 500 words DON'T DO IT

Kinda bummed I won't be ending this class with even an A-.. Professor Mayer is a funny guy, his lectures go by fast usually not boring but his grading is a little tough and his tests are difficult too.

Professor Mayer is funny and has entertaining lectures but is quite unorganized and unclear about deadlines and vague. Treats the course like a 300 level. Wasn't very accessible and relied heavily on TA. The study guide gives you a general idea for tests but questions could be abstract. He does generously curve the two tests.

He's a nice professor, but not a great fit for a 100-level class. Only graded by three things: essay, an midterm, and final. Those things are graded harshly. I like his lectures though because they are very interactive. He still needs to care more about the well-being of his students especially during this time. I suggest he sticks to grad classes.

Professor Mayer has amazing, interactive lectures. But, he could be a little more lenient considering it's a 100-level course. He treats this course like a grad course. It's stressful to be graded by three things and have those things be graded harshly. Students taking this as a 100-level should not be that stressed to pass. Liked the readings tho.

Not organized. Syllabus does not have due dates, he lets you know a week or two before! there are only 3 assigments which is one paper 30% midterm 30% and final is 40% so if u fail on eyou could fail everything! Power points are not helpful at all. too much info. If he did not do the midterm online open notes most would have failed. dont take him.!

I absolutely loved Professor Mayer. As one of my first professors I was. introduced to at Mason, his style of teaching made me feel very comfortable in class. I am a big US Gov nerd, which is what this class is with, but his lectures are super enjoyable and if you pay attention and participate you should be fine.

The class consisted of one paper which was graded hard for a 100 level course, a midterm and a final. He does curve a lot which I DEFINITELY appreciated. I thought the lectures were lowkey boring but I know people who loved them. Loves to call on students by random even though its a lecture with over 100 students.

Yeah he has good lectures that aren't incomprehensibly boring, but there's only 3 grades the entire semester. An easy, midterm, and final. The essay is graded based on a 300 level class and the midterm and final "study guides" are only outlines of what will be on the test. One bad grade and you can kiss passing the class goodbye.

Liked the in-class discussions we had a lot, pretty funny and nice guy. Didn't have to use the book much, and prof was good at giving the important info in the lecture and keeping things interesting and engaging. Tests were somewhat tricky but not too bad.

He's really funny and makes lectures a lot more interesting. You need the textbook and have to do the reading if you want to do well on the exams. Attendance is not graded however there are no powerpoints or notes posted for the lectures so you definitely want to try to show up because stuff from the lectures may be on the exams. Would take again!

honestly if you don't read the textbook, you won't do well on his exams. There is a midterm, an essay, and final and that's it. Some of the stuff he says in the lectures are in the exams, but other than that Professor Mayer is so funny and he tries to help as much as possible!

Hilarious. Participation matters. Get ready to read... that pretty much sums up this class. While there is a lot of reading, it's from different books with different perspectives. And he's an easy grader. Plus the lectures/discussions are interesting and engaging.

Really liked Professor Mayer. I have taken both 103 and 412 with him and they were by far my favorite classes. he is super funny and always helpful. I loved the project offered in 412. He does provide a lot of the texts but be sure to talk to someone who has the books if you don't have them. would take his class again if I could I really enjoyed it
