truly brilliant. her ability to think new thoughts and to push forward is unrivaled. she always challenges herself and, quite simply, will not except that her class will not or cannot move forward with her. she demands the highest level of thought from her class participants. in this respect, yes, she is tough but incredibly kind and generous.

She is dismissive and mean, and does not like students. This films are good but her discussions of them are ramblings of her own thoughts. She often asks the class questions and then sits in silence till someone speaks up and then acts like your response is silly and stupid. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS

I really wanted to like this class. The readings are difficult, and classes are completely focused on them. She does not encourage much discussion outside of the readings, so if you didn't understand them, good luck. She's obviously smart, but scatter-brained. Nobody wanted to participate in class. Good films, though.

She's incapable of staying on topic, and decided that with that shortcoming it would be a good idea to teach a 3 1/2 hour class. Her teaching style is truly insufferable, and as decent enough of a woman she seems to be, she really shouldn't be allowed to teach a class much longer than a half hour, as to limit her rambling.

Terrible. Had her for film noir, and the class barely touched on the genre at all. Not a lot of writing, but she stutters over her lectures making her hard to understand. Readings reference her own work... and she does not think movies have symbolism.

Iranian Cinema. Assumed too much prior knowledge of cinema when I had none. Made the class very difficult. I, a student with over a 3.9 GPA, was lucky to survive with a C+ Her film choices were very good though.

I had her for film noir and basically the TA taught the class. while she showed films she always had "to go somewhere" so i usually left too. she always seemed like she didnt want to be there. she was a nice person but her thoughts were incoherent and random. she would go off on tangents and different directions never one clear thought

She doesn't seem to like students, or teaching at all for that matter. She often just uses class as a forum for her to try to think through the ideas involved in what she is working towards publishing. This leaves students confused, in that her ideas are mostly jumbled works in progress. She seems threatened by anyone who disagrees with her.

Acts like she wants input from the class but acts like they are Wrong when they do not have the same random idea as her - "always has to be right" is pretty accurate description... tests are easy if you remember what she said in class word for word... assigns interesting readings, though (has a preoccupation with unrelated architecture articles)

This professor has an undeserved reputation for being standoffish. I found her to be incredibly helpful and generous - with her time and her books. She is very rigorous but also very clear-thinking, and it is exciting to watch her thought progress.
