Whatever you do, TAKE DOBRENEN FOR BIO 101. I hate night classes but I took one just so that I could take his class. He knows that people in BIOL 101 aren't science majors and has reasonable expectations. His tests are really easy (just study the study guide) and everything else is open note. A few other papers, but he's a really easy grader.

He's a great gen-ed prof. Took BIO 101 with him and passed so easily. He is clear with what he expects from you each week, and it is not too much work. He is clear about what exactly is on the tests and quizzes. He's also genuinely a funny dad-joke kind of guy, lectures can get dry but his humor brightens them.

Dobrenen is the BEST professor ever. Everything about this class is easy. He's passionate about the subject but doesn't expect you to be. I have nothing but good things to say about this man; I wish I could have the pleasure of having him as a professor again. Amazing guy. If you take anyone else for BIO 101, you're making a mistake.

By far my favorite professor! He gives out study guides with answers, the SAME questions and answers are on the exams. He is really caring and understanding and makes a lot of exceptions! Professor Dobrene gives out worksheets during and after class to work on with a few people, or by yourself, which determine attendance. Answers are online btw!

Class always gets out early. Weekly quiz answers can be found online. Beware of the tests as you are not allowed to use anything to help you, unlike the quizzes. One large paper but very easy. Cool professor, lectures are boring.

Dr. Dobrenen is one of those professors who understands that BIO 101 is just a general level class and doesn't expect you to know every detail about every single thing he talks about in his lectures. His lectures--although long--are interesting if you actually pay attention.

Easy A if you just study for the tests, and do the in class assignments! A little bit of homework but not bad. He gives you the study guides AND the answers to the study guides. Best part, he teaches multiple sessions and even if you're signed up for one time, you can attend any time you like! He wants you to succeed

I took him for a lecture class and i thought it'd be boring but he's funny and makes things easy to understand. He is very understanding and helps you if you ask. Take him if you can. you do have to study for the tests but the quizzes are really easy. highly recommend him for sure

Professor Dobrenen is such a sweetheart. He puts a lot of memes in his powerpoints, so that's a plus. I appreciate the fact that he understands everyone is taking this as a GE, and treats it as such. Overall, he is a great professor, and I would definitely recommend taking Biology with him.

Comment:

Prays and has a devotion before every class. Has sense of humor. Breaks during lectures. Quizzes almost every class, but really easy cause open note and you can use your phone or laptop. Study guides exactly like the exams. One easy paper w/ a clear rubric. Accepts late work. Class time not convenient? Lets you attend another class.

Dobrenen is an extremely nice man. He is the best professor to take Biology with if you are a non-science major so you don't really care to learn lots. His lectures can be a little bit long, but it's cool to see how much he loves biology. There's 1 long paper, 4 tests, and a quiz every class. He gives you all the questions & answers, so memorize!

There is a quiz at the beginning of every class but it is super easy- you can use your notes, book, and computer. He lets you go to any class session so you don't have to go to the one you sign up for. He gives study guides for the tests that have the answers! Just make sure to study really hard! He gives extra credit and he wants everyone to pass

if you are taking bio101 just for gen ed. TAKE DOBRENEN. Easiest class, study guides are EXACTLY whats guna be on the test. Theres like 2 papers but theyre a piece of cake. Lectures hardly ever went to three hours. Prays right before every class and has a sense of humor which is good in bio. :-)

This was not-even-show-up-and-still-pass type of class. This is great if you do NOT like science but are forced to take it for credit. Personally, I felt like this class was a big waste of time where I did not learn much. The professor is really cool and loves on the students, but definitely was not productive in class.

Comment:

John Dobrenen is a great professor. He understands that this is a General Education class, and that we just want to learn what is needed. He tries to make his lectures funny and engaging. He emails you every week with an overview of what is due, and his quizzes are open book, which is extremely helpful. I learned to really enjoy the quizzes.
