Comment:
Great professor who involved himself in the class in all online discussions. This class was one of the best I have taken that is designed for student success academically, and most importantly, for learning. I would highly recommend this professor if you don't mind doing meaningful work for the purpose of engaging you in the bible. Fantastic.

Not particularly helpful as a teacher. He's obviously a smart man, who can research and write like few others. But as a professor he's not that great. I'd skip taking his class and just read his books instead.

While Dr. Goldingay is well-respected in his field, and I do think he's very bright, he's "that professor" who is great at writing and thinking, but not at teaching. Assignments are unclear and lectures are tough to get through. Don't take his class; just read his books.

Comment:
Took his OT Writings course and it was brutal. He read from his lecture plan that he distributes the first day of class, so it's predictable and routine for him which feels incredibly dull for the rest of the class. Your only hope is to shake things up a bit by asking tough questions and getting the class involved.

Comment:
Dr. Goldingay is knowledgeable. He has great dry wit. But his lectures are torturous because he reads from his own syllabus, which is about 100 pages. I appreciated his openness to my ideas for topics. When he gets away from his lecture/syllabus notes, the class is more interesting.

Goldingay's Prophets course actually may have raised more questions for me than it answered (not necessarily a bad thing). Spent a bit more time on source criticism than I'd hoped we would. Used only the OT for text. 80% of grade comes from 2 papers, so they'd better be good! I found him to be an unpredictable, fascinating professor.

Dr. Goldingay may be a great scholar and a good writer (and he is a nice guy 1-on-1!), but his lectures are quite boring. His grading is unpredictable, and his syllabus is quite jumbled and imprecise. I do not intend to take his courses ever again. I will not recommend his courses to others.

He's a brilliant man & a leader in the field, but as a visual learner I found his teaching style impossible. Also, he is all business in the classroom making him unapproachable and impersonal. Great scholar (despite some peculiarities that differ from most scholars), but all the same I would not take him again.

A real Tzaddik. Would that many teachers at Fuller cared about sharing and mentoring like Dr. Goldingay. He works hard at his craft and it shows. He freely shares all that he knows and possesses. I can't say enough great things about him and his classes.

Took OT Writings as a night class and struggled every week to stay awake. Papers were okay, but really focused on your own interests and research pertaining to the books, so lectures became irrelevant, making it even harder to stay interested. Overall, I was pretty disappointed.

His lectures were hard to understand. You need to sit up close to catch all the jokes. I found him unapproachable when it came to working with him on the papers. The papers are each 50% of the class, which is ridiculously unfair, especially since he is extremely harsh on the grading. The homework blogs were fun and helpful, the teacher was not.

While I begrudgingly admit to learning a thing or two in this class, he focused so much on gender that we never talked about Joseph, and the class was Pentateuch. Apparently the second half of Genesis is unimportant. Also, his grading sucks. He said he would give Moses a C for the Pentateuch...I don't think he was kidding.

He's wild. He gets so excited about the Psalms that he'll jump around class. Great outfits too. You should take him, you'll learn a lot about the OT and about yourself, and about the Rolling Stones.

Fabulous. One of the most approachable and helpful professors. Very passionate and intelligent. You have to keep up on the daily homework. Two thumbs up, take him for at least one OT class!!
