Comment:
This was probably one of the hardest classes I have taken. The key to this class is finding somebody who has already taken it and using their test/hw (very little changes). Take the other teacher for lab and you won't regret it. Asking questions in this class is terrible. Also, buy chegg for hw it will save your life.

Super condescending and rude. He makes you feel dumb for asking questions. His lectures don't help you learn since he reads off the slides. The prelabs and labs are very hard because he gives almost no context. He doesn't grade any assignments until after each exam so you get no feedback and never know how you're doing in the class.

I took Chem 141 at hcc before transferring to ISU, and I failed. I changed my major because I thought Chem was just not for me. But once I got to ISU i took Chem there and got a B. Same material different teacher. Just don't take chem with John!

Just avoid if possible. I had such a hard time trying to learn with his style. Reads slides he made, then does examples extremely fast without any class interaction. He NEVER saw (or at least called upon) students with their hands raised. If you're not great at chemistry, you won't learn from him, if you like chem, he won't be too bad (maybe)

I took a online class with John for a Chem 120 class, I took this class online because I needed the credit for this class and this seemed to be the only time I had. This class was HORRIBLE, my other teachers were GREAT, him not so much. He is SO unclear about assignments and he posted my grade without grading all of my work. NOT approachable at all

Does not answer questions and is not approachable. Does all the examples in lecture for you so you don't even get the chance to learn how to do them. Notes are either write them all down yourself or print out the power point. He made topics that I had already learned and understood more confusing. Did all the work and studied and still failed.

I had to teach myself EVERYTHING. The book the internet and khan academy got me an A. He starts a class and doesnt talk about what he is doing, he just starts doing math on the board and expects you to know what he is doing. His class Is boring lectures in a monotone voice and math. If you take a class from him be prepared to teach yourself.

Let me start off by saying I don't like science. I was expecting this to be a forensic class with some chemistry. Instead, it was the opposite. John is a really nice guy. However, he's not very good at teaching. He reads directly off of his PowerPoint slides and doesn't explain well. I only got an A because of John's replacement for the end.

Class is filled with lectures of powerpoint. There is online hw, group hw, and group quizzes. You're allowed a page of notes on the test, but things are very different from what he tries to teach. Hard to study for or pass, tests are heavily curved because of this. He is very monotone, seems like he doesn't enjoy teaching, but knows his stuff.

This professor clearly has some issues and is not teaching for the enjoyment. I would not take this teacher, he is very difficult and does not care if his students succeed. I think he takes enjoyment in putting students down instead of wanting to help them. really Run from this guy!

Do not recommend Professor Muench. Lectures are very boring and he is not very helpful to students. Handwriting is very hard to read and makes it hard to learn. Most do not do good in his class.

He doesn't grade anything until months later then fails half the class and nearly 10 kids withdrawal. Possibly worst teacher I've had in my life. So mean to students and doesn't care to help them pass. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS!

This teacher is so far behind in grading your work you have no idea how you are doing. He treats his students poorly, very unprofessional. I am not sure why he is teaching. There are better teachers at Heartland.

He is the most condescending professor. Treats his students poorly. His tests impossible even if he lets you do open notes. Nothing like the study guides or samples tests. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

He knows the material, but he clearly doesn't like teaching; his lectures are dry, barely comprehensive, and monotone. He's condescending when you ask questions, and expects you to understand stuff that isn't in the book.

Professor Muench is a nice guy. He is glad to help you out. That being said, his lectures consist of slides, lecture problems, and group activities. The material itself isn't interesting, so this isn't really his fault. A lot of time must be invested to really learn the material. If you know it well, you'll do fine, but he makes you work for it.

Comment:
Very knowledgeable though condescending & monotonous. He'll put you down for asking questions, but I took the humiliation anyway bc I need to understand the material; chemistry builds upon itself. Despite exams being open notes, they're so difficult that grades are dramatically curved. He doesn't seem to love teaching, I suggest taking a diff prof.

Mr. Muench is one the best profesor I ever had. He extremetely knows its stuff. I am a testamony . I came in his class without any background of Chem, but right now I am one of his good student because he helped me a lot. If you are serious about what you are looking for he is the right person to help you out, but if you like jokes plz stay away.

John is the reason I will soon be a chemist. If you're here to learn, you will learn. If you're here to play games--find a different professor.
