Had him for Presbyterian creeds. Great lecturer, funny, engaging and very informative. Takes genuine interest in his students. One of the best I've had at Fuller and will take him again!

John Thomson is the best lecturer I've had in my 3 years at Fuller. I loved this class and felt that not only did I learn about theology but I was enriched spiritually. This class does not disappoint.

Likes detail over big-picture, divorces thought from context, stereotypically reformed, always defaults to Calvin, glosses over anyone inconsistent with reformed theology, loves his students, great guy, very organized but not very clear, tough grader, has a cult-like following of students, and he is a bit quirky.

Thoroughly goes through material. You definitely get your money's worth here. He is witty, humorous, and intensely interested in this subject. Excellent history/theology course. Plan on many hours of reading (ca. 1000+ pages). Follow outlines, pay attention, and review notes often! Fierce grader.

One of the best professors I've ever had. Fantastic lecturer. Very prepared for class. Uber-organized. Good sense of humor. You have to work VERY hard to get an A, but he's very available to help struggling students. Definitely recommended.

Granted, you have to work hard to excel in his classes, but it's not impossible to get A's. You have to read a lot, take notes on reading. Go to every lecture & review your notes often. I learned so much in his classes, excellent lectures.

Tremendous amount of Medieval philosophical reading, 3 five page papers which were extremely hard to do well on, and a comprehensive final covering such figures as Anselm, Abelard, Luther, and Calvin. You must be exceptional to get an A.
