Easy course overall. Four books to read for which there is either an essay or a test. Tests are short answer. Pop quizzes on the reading material but they are all straightforward (SparkNotes suffices if necessary). Final was not cumulative. Essays are 3-4 pages long & are graded leniently. Don't think anyone made

Awesome lectures that are somehow fun to listen to even if you have no clue about/haven't read the book. Beware of quizzes, spark notes will suffice 98% of the time.

Incredibly caring professor. If you're lucky enough to have Bolton, do yourself a favor and apply yourself, and you'll find a new love for literature if you don't already have one. All 4 reads are unbelievable and get increasingly difficult to follow, but Bolton is exceptional at providing clear analytical thoughts about each and he will help you!

Professor Bolton has been one of my favorite professors I've ever taken at auburn. He genuinely cares about the students in his class and as long as you are trying, then he will support you and help you succeed. I would take as many classes with him as I could.

Dr. Bolton is one of my favorite professors at Auburn. While some of the readings are tough to get through, he always makes discussions super interesting. He grades easily on quizzes, which are mostly done in groups anyway. Always willing to help and provides good insight into papers. Amazing class!

Dr. Bolton is a great professor. He knows the class material very well and can answer any analytical questions that you might have. He is very easy going and genuinely wants you to do well. The tests weren't too bad and any papers that were due usually got a B. I got an A in the class pretty easily, but you do have to read. Take Bolton for any Lit

Such a wonderful professor! He was wonderful at teaching Jane Eyre. Only two papers, midterm and final. Vocabulary due each week. Such an encourager, and if he ever has a bad day you would never know. One of the easiest and most enjoyable A's I have ever made, and I am a science major.

Dr. Bolton really is interested in the subject and it shows in his discussion. Near the end of the year, in-class discussion began to wane because of lack of interest, but he tried to keep us excited about English. Tests are easy, even if you half-pay attention and read SparkNotes. Definitely the best English Dept. professor!

No Research paper!! Two essays 4-5 pages long, based on poems from daily reading. Read Jane Eyre (amazing). midterm completely based on the book. 5 vocab words due each week (cushioned grade) Fair grader. Kind of boring.

Dr. Bolton possesses an outstanding intellect. Other comments will say that discussion is boring, but that is NOT a fault belonging to professors. It is preposterous to blame a professor for a boring discussion; students are responsible for discussion, as well. All assignments are within reason, but, as any other English class, they require work.

This guy is the most adorable professor at AU. He is the nicest guy plus he looks a little like Mr. Sheffield from The Nanny! Just read the books and have some interesting answers when he asks questions. If I could take more English classes, I'd take him in a heartbeat!

Very nice man. We read interesting books but the discussion afterward was a little simplistic and not as interesting as it could have been. One of the easiest classes I have ever taken.

Dr. Bolton is the first English teacher I have liked at Auburn. He doesn't just talk about his opinion, he truly wants to hear what the class thinks about the books. He is very encouraging during essay conferences. Great teacher!

Very nice. Class gets really boring, just endless analysis of essays. Speak up about whatever comes to mind and you can get by without reading. Helpful with essays, schedules conferences, plenty of time to get each done. Highly recommended
