He was horrible. The set up of the class was disorganized, unhelpful and just overall frustrating. Over half my class dropped the class after the midterm because only 12/35 even passed, AND IT WAS OPEN BOOK.

Class can be interesting, but it was very annoying to have him unprepared for class on more than a few occasions. Contra the other posts, he's very nice and actually rather willing to admit mistakes. I imagine that if you don't like the material, and are not involved in the class, he will pan you--if that's the case, you probably deserve it.

Dr. Ellin is a wonderful professor if one comes to seminar willing to learn and consider various facets of an issue, and not with an agenda already in hand. Contrary to some posts, Ellin is also quite willing to admit when he's mistaken, or when some problem is beyond his expertise. Overall, I think Ellin is a fantastic prof.

I hated the class. It was awful to sit through and, if anything, makes me less interested in the material than when I first started. His grading system is not explained at all, his comments are unhelpful and he was rather obnoxious in class.

He spent classes telling us how we didn't understand the book, and gave us his own opinion of the stuff we were reading about. His opinion is not always correct but if you try to argue against him, he ridicules you or doesn't take you seriously. Also the comments he writes on your papers are unhelpful so you don't know how well you're doing at all.

I have witnessed him cruelly ridicule more than one student. He is pompous and condescending. He knows everything, students know nothing (sarcasm). He is by far one of the worst professors I have ever encountered.
