She broke me. She gave me a C- on everything I handed in. Work that other professors said was excellent. Be prepared to sit for hours at night tearing your hair out, reading her 50 page packets. Listening to her lecture is agonizing, its like her voice is melatonin. Quizzes every single class. Very passive aggressive, and its her way or no way.

Lots and lots of reading required. Not only do you have to read the assigned books but she hands you a packet to read (usually anywhere between 15-50 pgs) pretty much every class that you have to read and take a quiz on. These readings are also boringgg! But she loves the topic and gets very excited about the most boring things.

very smart, caring woman who tries to make the lectures interesting. very passionate so, she comes off a bit odd at first. I was iffy about her until I went to her office hours and she made it clear she was there to help me succeed. Go prepared to her office hours to have a discussion and she will help you. Also read for her quizzes, they count

By far the worst professor Ive ever had. The class met once a week for 2 and 1/2 hours. It was the most boring class and the worst part of my week. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you have little or no prior knowledge on native Americans. Theres no textbook. Shes rude and doesnt help you at all. And theres a quiz every class on the readings.

Professor Van Buskirk was an incredible influence during my time at Cortland. I took a class with her Fall 2015 and Spring 2016. She is the most kind, caring, and understanding professor I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. If you are struggling, go to her office hours show her you are putting in effort and she will help you tremendously.

She may be a tough grader and a lot of work, but she is an amazing human being. You will never find a professor more passionate about her work and about teaching. She will gladly help anyone who is willing to put in the work and loves her students deeply. Don't be scared to go to her with anything, she's incredible!

She is very condescending when you ask her for help,She acts as if her class is the only one that you're taking. If you go to her office hours to explain the material you went over in class, she expects you to know it even though you obviously don't. Hard grader on essays, quizzes every day, readings every night, only two tests, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

She's a very nice person, but her lectures are very long and you have to write down EVERY word she says. Two tests (Midterm and final) and two papers for the semester. I am currently in her class still. If you pay attention and take notes you will get a good grade.

She teaches the class like a story and I found it to be a very interesting class. After the first few weeks she starts giving quizzes on the reading material so make sure you keep up on it. Also, she is kind of a tough grader on the essays, but grades the tests and quizzes well. She is very nice and cares about the students.

Dr. Van Buskirk is a great professor. She delivers passionate lectures and really works to get students involved. She expects students to read and will quiz them to make sure. Tests are usually short response and essay. She is a tough grader when it comes to tests and papers, but her feedback is helpful and she genuinely wants to help you succeed.

This class was completely insane. I thought it would be interesting so that the class could at least be enjoyable. Nope. She's bias, gives pop quizzes nearly every day and just does not seem to understand that you may have more going on than just her class alone.

Senior Seminar was extremely easy with her. She explained EXACTLY what she was looking for, and explained EXACTLY how she wanted the essay. People seem to be complaining because they don't listen. To the guy saying Cortland library doesn't have primary sources before 1860, the Washington Papers are from 1740's and onward, and there are many others.

Probably the worst teacher I have had at Cortland in two years. She mumbles and doesnt explain a thing. She is not nice and takes attendance everyday. Quizzes once a week on readings and the weight of things are ridiculous. Her tests are very difficult and grades so hard.

she is a terrible professor. she whispers when she talks about important topics so you can barely ever hear her. she talks the whole time and you have to write down everything she says. she always talks about a test yet there is only a midterm and a final and 2 papers. make sure you read bc she quizes every day. DONT TAKE HER

She almost annoys you with how excited she gets, she tries really hard to teach the subject in a story kind of way---it just doesnt work. Notes are horrible--you have to write down her every word and grades hard on essays/tests. Her tests are all WRITTEN. Short answers/essay. i def dont recommend her

Had her for Monday night class... If that doesn't sound painful enough then listen to one of her lectures. Very boring, too much reading, her grading was harsh and never EVER ask for multiple choice exams because they are next to impossible. She tries really hard,so you almost feel bad that you can't find anything remotely interesting in her class.

She is a very nice lady, but grades way to hard. THe essays she gives us are not well explained and the tests are almost impossible. Although you do learn something with her, it is not worth taking this class with her.
