Class was super extra. She assigned multiple long readings every week and her paper prompts were vague, no one ever understood what was expected. Class was totally discussion-based and she often let the conversation get out of hand - it got intense a couple of times when sensitive topics were brought up. Do not take her!

She is a really nice person and genuinely cares about her students. However, the workload is absolutely excessive. Fifty pages of reading and a three page essay every week and a 3,000 minimum paper at the end. The class was interesting but she was so extra

Although she is very cool as a person and makes students feel valued, Kathy is not great as a professor. Gives an excessive amount of reading each week and gives very vague guidelines for papers & assignments. She is very disorganized & sometimes lacks control over the class. Class is discussion based & interesting but got very intense at times

Long reading assignments every week, participation is a must. Her rubrics and prompts are vague, so if you want to get a good grade on the essays she assigns, ALWAYS submit multiple drafts to her for review. Honors FYS is way harder than normal FYS. I'd take Kathy again, just be ready to read read read.

Read 3 long articles each week & write online analysis of each each week. Discussion based class boring, but must participate. Graded on participation, weekly journals, 3 essays, and guiding question poster. Confusing feedback on papers and not given much information about anything in class. Not know what grade you'll receive until very end. Hard!!

This is more of a warning about Honors FYS than about Kathy herself. This course was 3 credits but somehow managed to be more than half of my total workload. I have no problem with Kathy; she is very nice and clearly very intelligent. She respects her students and is very approachable. However, her assignments and rubric are extremely unclear.

Most annoying class to take. Honestly made me consider quitting college. She is the only honors FYS teacher so I recommend not joining honors. Regular FYS classes are a joke, take those instead.

Kathy makes QU101 tolerable and is a fantastic human being. She is a great professor, but the class itself is kind of dry. There is an exorbitant amount of reading and a lot of writing. Class consists of sitting in a circle and talking about the readings. Essays are difficult. But Kathy is a lot of fun and goes above and beyond for her students.

She is very engaging and the discussions are fun if you use materials outside of the readings such as songs and YouTube videos to clarify your point in class. Don't be afraid to disagree with her as long as you do in a respectful manner with evidence to support your belief. Themes get repetitive but final paper was interesting. Learned a lot.

Extremely one sided. The honors section of QU 101 is a lot of work (don't recommend health science students to take). She often talks about the same 4 issues throughout the semester. Also, always just try to agree with her. Your grades will suffer even if you hint out anything she'll disagree with.

She is a very engaging, interesting, and likable professor who is connected with her students. She made QU101 enjoyable. That being said, her honors section of QU101 was probably ten times more work than the non-honors sections. The honors section is not for people who aren't interested in being challenged w/o a GPA boost.

The discussions were great because of the people in our class (honors students), NOT because of the outside work. Kathy is a kindhearted women who did such a nice job of leading discussions, but the weekly assignments were usually a waste and sometimes last minute and frustrating. The larger essays did help to tie themes together.

The class had a lot of outside work but the discussions were great and we actually enjoyed QU101 because of it. Kathy is great and really cares about her students. She is open to suggestions and listened if we felt overwhelmed by the work. Overall, she wanted to challenge us so we would get the most out of our experience.

This woman would bend over backwards to help her students and devotes so much of herself to the honors program. That being said, while her class was interesting, there was a great deal of busywork which was more pointless than helpful. Many students were frustrated with the out-of-class work, but the in-class discussions were fine. Very sweet.

Really interesting woman, but she assigns a lot of unnecessary work. As head of the honors department she has too much on her plate to give her classes the attention they deserve, so you end up doing a LOT of work that goes undiscussed and ungraded. But, she's really fun and interesting and I learned a lot!

Disorganized. Assigned huge amounts of work that never ended up being looked at. Graded ourselves in the end. If you take her, do not even bother putting effort into her journals Will never look at them. Hard grader on essays. Most work out of all my classes. Do not expect any feedback. Very smart woman but not enough time in her schedule.

I thought it would be really good to take QU 101 with the head of the Honors department so I could develop a relationship with her. However, she gives so much work that really isn't necessary for a QU class. I wanted to focus on my major classes, but instead had to write three 8 page papers for her. There's tons of reading and journals every week.
