Kevin, in my opinion, is a solid teacher. While the expectations for the tests weren't always crystal clear, he did his best to prepare students for them, which included giving us equations we would have on the tests and exactly how to use them. He was really patient with us when we didn't understand something, and never got angry or upset at us.

I absolutely loved having Mclaughlin as a professor although all over the place and kind of hard to follow he was really funny and a really nice guy and I enjoyed coming to lectures. He was pretty good at explaining things if you visited him outside of class though

His lectures are very confusing and hard to follow. Usually our class has to ask him to explain stuff multiple times until we understand what he's talking about. I went to him for help and was concerned about the grade I was getting and he gave me a piece of paper with the chem help center hours and that was it.

Show up to class and you're in good shape. The way he teaches is an adjustment but if you keep coming to class, you'll learn and it will make sense. He tells you exactly what to expect on the exams. He's really nice and willing to help if you need it! I definitely recommend. Only downfall is no notes posted on D2L.

Kevin is a character. Once you get used to his style and his humor he isn't that bad. And yes his lectures aren't the best for beginners... but he is ALWAYS willing to help. I found myself in his office quite often and I felt very comfortable asking him questions. (Unlike professor who make you feel dumb). Very real person! I would take him again.

I found that this class was a waste of my time. For one, Dr. Mclaughlin does a poor job of giving a good lecture. He does a terrible job of getting his students ready for an exam and anything he does tell us to study, is never on the test. I would strongly advice not taking him if you aren't a Chemistry whiz..

Everyday after class I got help from this teacher, he would spend hours helping me a week. His sense of humor isnt for everyone can sometimes can come off as mocking to some people however its meant to be light hearted. I would recommend this teacher if you need to take chem and want alot of help outside of class.

I took Dr. McLaughlin's Chem course during the summer, with far fewer students than there will be during the year, so he was able to give a lot of individual help - which he prefers. He wants us to succeed. He has rather dry humor, which I found amusing, but not everyone does. He did his best to make sure we could follow and encouraged questions.

If you need any kind of help he is always willing to help clarify or run through a problem. I knew I didn't do so great on one of my tests. I went to him right after and we when into a room with a chalkboard and any problem I struggled with he helped me work through it. It was my 1st semester and I was very happy with the class. He believed in me.

Dr. McLaughlin is easily the best professor at River Falls. He's weird, goofy and funny, but he will drop everything to help and is available 247. He makes an effort to make sure you learn, and relays ideas and concepts easily and effectively. Don't just sit there and expect to ace it -- if you ENGAGE, like a student should, it will be easy andfun

He is detailed in asking questions, and may seem rude. But in working with him since freshman year, he is great to learn from. Ask for help, and he will be more than happy to give you clues. Every class you take for your major is important, so why is it so hard to show interest in chemistry as well? You will become more knowledgable in doing so.

I thought McLaughlin was an excellent professor. He has a super weird sense of humor which a lot of people take to offense. He's actually a nice guy and wants to help us pass his class. Just do practice problems and attend lectures and the class is fine. I found tutors helpful when I couldn't figure out what was going on in lecture.

Though not very good at chemistry I enjoyed McLaughlin's class he does joke around, I thought he was funny. He does have extra credit sometimes so do it if he offers. His class isn't impossible any chem class is gonna be hard. Don't miss class it's important he does a good job explaining for the most part. He also makes it clear he's available.

If you go see him and ask for help he is MORE than willing. People that say he is rude have no sense of humor, it's pretty obvious he's kidding. He loves Chemistry, he'll help you along the way if you are struggling and even curves his grades to help people pass. I never took chem in HS and did very well in his class, you just have to work at it.

I had him for lab. He is not very helpful, and can say very hurtful things sometimes. He would frequently go to students, mocking them if they got something wrong or didn't understand something. I would strongly suggest not taking him for lab at least. Professors shouldn't treat students the way he does.

I think Dr McLaughlin is commonly misunderstood. I found him friendly, funny, and very informative. The tests are hard, but he gives clear expectations and usually partial credit. Sometimes we were able to talk him into extra credit as well. He is willing to give extra help, and gives fascinating lectures. I found myself wishing class was longer!

I suggest to never take him unless you already have a STRONG chemistry background. He likes to say "oh how sad" when you have a question and dont know the answer, he also says that commen sence alot and doesn't help with questions. He is very difficult and goes off on random facts alot, hes tough on his lab quizes. Good Luck!

Comment:
He knew his stuff. He told you what was going to be on the tests and every week before a test you have a practice quiz which are the same type of problems, just with different numbers. However in class he is very disorganized. His teaching jumps a lot and he tells lots of stories that don't pertain and goes on tangents a lot.
