Comment:

Dr. Gainer is a nice woman but the class content is pretty difficult. Be prepared to read and write a lot more than CORE classes. There is no late work and no excuses.

Dr. Gainer is horrible. She is an EXTREMELY tough grader on everything. If it's not written to her liking you get like half the credit. Her lectures are long and drag on. I should have dropped this course when I could have. You'll either hate her or love , there's no in between.

Comment:

Took Gainer this semester for ENGL 470 - the course itself will always be reading intensive regardless of the professor, but it is doable. She is funny, helpful, and incredibly knowledgeable. She stopped giving reading quizzes halfway through the semester, but there are weekly reading logs and one research paper - maybe 2 hours of work a week.

Full disclosure: I had to drop her class before the semester truly started because Dr. Gainer's course is very demanding, as is she. She was clear about this from the beginning, but in my mind, "Demanding" doesn't mean "Lectures pregnant woman for yawning during non-class meeting." Some people love her. Others hate her. I couldn't take her. YMMV

Dr. Gainer definitely knows what she is talking about, yet does not make things clear. You have to do a lot of "objectives" for each paper. The conferences she holds with you about the paper are fine unless you do not do exactly what she wants. She is nice but is weird. She is not clear on a lot and like to confuse you.

While Dr.Gainer is incredibly helpful as well as intelligent, she is an extremely tough grader. Through the span of this course, I have had difficulty with her grading standards and lack of clarity as far as authors of course lectures go. She has also called me out in various emails to the entire class. So, I would not recommend her for an online

She is a horrible teacher. Makes you stay in class the whole time even if she isn't teaching. So much unnecessary work. Very hard grader, extremely boring. 10 minute speech 5 page paper power point and 10 annotated bibliographies for your final.

Very bad with making things clear, makes a reading log due every class and is weird. DO NOT TAKE CORE WITH THIS TEACHER unless you like getting a TON of homework. extremely unhelpful and not laid back at all. Very strict and doesn't give students any sympathy what so ever..always refers to trying to be professional.. ha just dont take core with her

I had Gainer for Core, but will take her again! I don't understand any of these reviews. Gainer does not play favorites, and she teaches just as any other professor with the same enthusiasm. Gainer treats you like an adult, and expects you to do her work - which is NOT difficult - so grow up. You are in college now.

Don't understand the negative reviews. Professor Gainer was great and easy to work with, she was extremely flexible for attendance and due dates and very laid back.I would definitely take her over another core teacher.

If AYou want to pass Core DO NOT take this lady. Her teaching style is if you dont get it you are going to fail. She DOES NOT sit down anf help you with anyting and the way she teaches is confusing. I went from a 100 A in core 101 first semester to a fail in this ladys class.

If you have any sense, you will not take this professor. She is by far the worst professor at Radford and looks forward to failing students. She will not help you at all if you ask for it. Take her class and be ready to read 5 or 6 novels and be ready to hate your life. She thinks her 200 level course should be more like a 500 level course. HATE HE

the worst professor i have ever ever had. she doesn't like girls so if you are a chick don't take her. She has completely screwed me over. She hates me and it shows. I know she doesn't grade fairly and plays favorites BIG time. She is a **** and does not care about any of her students unless they are men. She is mad that her life sucks.

Gainer is a professor with a chip on her shoulder. She knows what she's talking about, but could do so with more understanding. She STRICKTLY sticks to the syllabus, no matter what. Come to class, DO THE READINGS, and reading logs. Not my favorite teacher & will avoid her at all costs.

i had her for 101 and she was easy, then in 102 something came up and she screwed me over big time. she's fine for the most part but she sure wasn't helpful to me when i needed it. plus, her talk of elves isn't very helpful for interest.
