Professor Shmakov is an excellent teacher. She is very nice and is great at teaching the material. There is homework every day but it is a manageable amount. You can use the same text book for Russian 101-103.

Comment:

Kristine is the best language teacher I have ever had. She is super nice and you can tell she really cares about her job. However, if you have social anxiety or are anti-social, her classes may not be for you as every day you will be talking to most of the people in the class. She doesn't single anyone out to speak in front of the class though.

Kristine is one of the best teachers I've ever had! She uses lots of activities to make learning Russian fun. It's a hard language, but she's there to help you. She's so patient & encouraging of everyone & makes sure you know making mistakes is just part of learning a language. Can't wait to take more Russian with her!

Comment:

Professor Shmakov is highly experienced, and very passionate about teaching Russian. If you are disruptive in class, refuse to follow simple instructions, or show a lack of courtesy to your fellow students, you will get your ass put on blast in front of the entire class. I wouldn't have it any other way. I can't wait until the next term!

Overall an ok teacher, try to be on her good side or she does tend to snap at small things and doesnt have much patience especially if you already know the language, Lots of homework and she expects you to correct it and show her. Quizzes and tests are also difficult. Not the best and not the worst teacher Ive had, Expect to work hard

Excellent teacher!!! Her class is amazing and engaging, and she is always available to help you and recommend resources. I think most people find Russian intimidating, but she makes it very simple and easy to follow. Class is super fun, and if you are doing the HW and practicing Russian at least 5 minutes a day, super easy. She's awesome!

Kristine is amazing!!! I love this class and her. She has a great personality and really cares about her students. Her class is very organized and she makes it really easy to follow along. She creates a lot of games and activities that makes learning Russian easier

Kristine makes learning complicated grammar not only do-able, but FUN. She offers opportunities for extra credit with every chapter- and there is also a free tutor available during the week. All you have to do is attend class & do the homework, and you'll find yourself learning more about Russian language & culture than you ever thought possible!

Kristine was one of my favorite teachers, a very compassionate, funny and intelligent professor who deserves so much recognition. she cares about your success with Russian and gives as much time as she can. her love of Russian shines through and shows you the beauty and unapologetic difficulty of the language. not for someone who wants an easy A

Shmakov is the best teacher I've ever had and this is my favorite class I've ever taken! She makes a hard language like Russian seem easy. Her classes are fun, engaging and filled with cultural information. She teaches in full immersion, which might sound hard, but it's so great and you learn Russian so much faster. Take Russian with her!

I only took Russian as a degree requirement but Kristine changed the trajectory of my life for the better. She possesses the most important traits in a language instructor: creativity; encouraging; a good sense of humor; and creates a space for folks to make mistakes and learn from them. Don't skip class, study a little everyday, and participate!

Comment:

Shmakov is hands down the best teacher I've ever had ever. It's impossible to not be engaged - she clearly loves teaching, if you go in with a good attitude and willingness to do your work this class is 110% worth it. She writes the textbook so it's particularly well put together. I've never missed a class more in my life. Stay cool, Kristina.

I took two terms of Russian at a university and though I got B's in both, I still wasn't quite getting it. I transferred to PCC and after one term with Kristine, everything started to fall into place. She's very encouraging and has a great sense of humor. I really enjoyed her class!

Kristina (Kristine if you're not a student) is an amazing teacher! She is so incredibly helpful and will do everything she can to get you to absorb the material. If you go into her class, actually wanting to learn Russian, you will be shocked at how much you learn! There is a ton of hw, tests, and reading to do, though! So keep that in mind.

Kristine is possibly the best teacher I've ever had. She is passionate about her work, and loves her job. She is prompt when answering emails. Also, if you're really confused and really need further explanation she will meet with you in her office. Do all the homework, study, see the tutor actually try, and you will be fine.

Kristine is a very competent instructor. She wants students to learn in her class, and will do everything to ensure it. That being said, she is VERY demanding and not flexible. She can be quite rude in her demands and won't tolerate much.

Kristine is an absolute pleasure to work with! Very energetic and passionate about teaching, patient when you make mistakes, and usually very upbeat. There was never a dull moment in class, even when we were going through seemingly tedious grammar details and whatnot. Be prepared to work for your grade though! Her class is NOT easy, but it's GREAT!

She is so kind an understanding of accommodations! I'm autistic and talked to her about social anxieties and she completely understood and let me do my own thing when I needed. She's very, very kind, and Russian is so much fun!
