Comment:
I generally found Professor Wolverton's class to be enjoyable, but nothing that blew me away. I believe that she is a very good teacher, but her lecture style personally did not suit me. She lectures almost exclusively on the chalkboard, which can seem unorganized and scattered at times. She's also a tough grader, although not unfair.

I think Professor Wolverton is a really great professor, but her teaching style is for a very specific student. I love history, but she lectures using ONLY HER NOTES AND A CHALKBOARD, and for me personally that was super dry. The feedback on papers/exams was minimal, study guides she gave out were good, readings were dense/long.

Comment:
Professor Wolverton's History 436: Top Charlemagne course was profoundly engaging, deep on content and heavy with lectures and participation. She's a tough one with grading and comments, but she is incredibly intelligent and well-versed in her field. Her course isn't for those seeking to skip by; attendance is a must, participate at any chance.

Wolverton provides the proper materials to succeed, but only vocally, so attendance is a must, as well as quick note-taking skills. She was condescending when approached during office hours and the tests are very specific. Reading the textbook is necessary, but the Buddha book's a waste. Success is viable, but only if you're willing to work for it.

Comment:
I took this class my freshman year and still rather frequently think of St. Augustine. 1/3 of the class would show up and most would not do the readings(a book from 1600 years ago). Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this class and still wish I had taken more humanities courses. Avoid if your main worry is grades and tests. Curiosity/thinking req.

She is not for those who are not passionate about medieval history. I am and as such gained a plethora of knowledge (I have taken her four times). Her writing assignments are very difficult. She is not looking for regurgitation of previously covered material, but original analytical thought, as in what historians do. I highly recommend her.

Professor Wolverton is really good, not boring as a lecturer either. She's helpful outside of class and the requirements for this class aren't hard, 3 very short essays. Here study guides for the exams were straightforward and if you do the readings this class isn't hard.

Just as a warning: Prof. Wolverton is probably the hardest grader in the UO's history department and I took many history classes here. To get a good grade, go to her office hours and make ample use of the writing lab in PLC. I did enjoy the class despite the difficulty and otherwise, she's a nice person and the class itself made me learn a lot.

I like this professor her class is interesting and she knows whats shes doing, however if you are not fully prepared she will destroy you without mercy. I tried and did not succeed one of the most difficult classes I have taken in college.

AWEFUL!! I took Cultural History of Dogs and was SO excited for it. She totally ruined it by teaching the class as though it was an impossible writing class. If you can help it, DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!

Hated the class. Cultural history of dogs was not what I expected, teacher graded it like a writing course and failed to help students outside the classroom. I would not recommend her classes unless you're really good at figuring it out all by yourself. Class material did not match syllabi and made no sense to the students.

I really did not like this class. I use to love history, but after this class I dont know if i'll ever take another history class at oregon. She says if you know the answers to the questions in the beginning of her lecture slides you'll be fine but her questions are super broad and on the test they are very very specific.

Really good professor. She knows the information like the back of her hand, and is able to explain it in a way that is clear and interesting. I definitely recommend taking her HIST 104 class.

I am NOT a history person, but this class was engaging and easy to understand. It is difficult because hundreds, sometimes thousands, of years are covered in 50 minutes but it's not impossible to keep up. The readings are VERY important, but the exams are fairly easy and predictable. Overall good teacher and valuable class.

She gives good lectures - a lot of detail- but her tests are so difficult! She uses very obscure quotes and themes.

While I have a rather large disdain for all Humanities classes, this class in particular wasn't all that enlightening. It was really specific in the opinions and bias' we experienced as a whole throughout the class and it seemed like the holistic view of the class was trite and redundant. Nearly worthless class.

Class is interesting for the subject. Wolverton makes it very clear what is expected of the students therefore it is easy to succeed if material is studied. Doesn't handle questions in class very well but this is expected of a 50 min lecture of which she uses every min. I recommend this course to any one who is interested or for GE purposes.

I love this class! She definitely knows her way around the material and her lectures are organized to the T. I can see how she wouldn't be the best at lower level classes though. The course is tough but if you do the work expect an A.

Comment:
This professor is AWFUL. She treats a 100 level class like its a 400 level one. She uses vague quotations on her tests, and her final essay questions are ridiculous; they have little to do with what we have covered in class. Even her GTFs agree that this class is difficult, and that she makes it much harder than it should be.
