Mark Eifler was truly one of my favorite teachers at UP, if not my favorite teacher so far. He is absolutely HILARIOUS! A lot of people need to take a History course for credit, and whether you do or not, I would definitely pick Early America with Mark Eifler. He is so funny, and makes learning in that class so much fun. Need History? Pick Eifler.

You only get three grades in this class- a midterm, a paper, and a final exam. You need to know how to take notes based on lectures, not powerpoints. There are no visuals. He gives you cheatsheets on the midterm and final so I didn't have to study for either of those. I am also a good writer so I did very well on the paper. He is an easy grader.

Dr. Eifler is a good lecturer. He keeps the lectures interesting, but it is sometimes hard to follow because he tends to jump around. Attendance is not necessary but there are two in class essays that are based on lecture material. There are small quizzes throughout the course based off of readings which were sometimes lengthy.

I can't say enough about Dr. Eifler! This man is truly incredible and so passionate. He knows so much and can describe historical events in great detail. The lectures are tough because they're so dense but they're always interesting. Exams are pretty hard but he always allows a notecard. I only read 1/7 textbooks, but it probably varies per class.

Dr. Eifler is a funny, amazing story-teller, perfect for a history class. His lectures are fun to listen to. He gives you exactly what he is looking for in his papers and is a fair grader. You can use a sheet of notes for exams. There are several books throughout the course, but can be easily read if you manage your time.

Dr. Eifler gives the best lectures. His history classes do not feel like classes; it feels more like fun story-telling. Every class was engaging. Prepare to take lots of notes, however. He is also very open to helping students. Many readings though short quizzes on them. Two 5-7 paged papers--not too hard. Also very hilarious and interactive.

Mark Eifler is probably one of my favorite professors. He makes the class very entertaining and he is also very funny. There is 3 exams in his class but you can bring notes to the exam (you can use both sides of the paper). His papers can be a little tricky, 6 pages long, deduce your grade if you submit a shorter length, reading the book is a must!

Favorite professor ever. Blew my mind over and over again when he gave his lectures. He was able to really explain the reasons why things happened, not just a chronology of what happened. Also loved him as my senior thesis professor. Loved that class. Definitely recommend him.

Super enthusiastic. Really interesting and articulate. He knows what he's talking about, and he makes it entertaining for everyone. Take his HST 210 class if you can, but be ready to read and write a bit.

Has very strict grading criteria, grades papers on an all or nothing scale. Can make students feel uncomfortable during lectures at times, but likes to keep the classroom environment light hearted.

Eifler is AMAZING! One of the best professors the University has to offer! I hate history, but I would take this class again becaue his lectures are incredibly interesting and insightful. He is more than willing to help you with essays. His tests are difficult / hard to study for, but he lets you bring in a note sheet. I recomend this class.

Dr. Eifler is one of my favorite professors of all time! He is so funny and entertaining in class. He does require a lot of reading (for the quizzes), but his tests are easy and based only on the lectures. There are two 6-8 page papers, but they are easy if you follow his directions closely.

Best professor I've had yet. Decided to minor in history after taking his class. Honestly just feels like he's telling a story for an hour and a half - he'll make you WANT to take notes.

You will get chills on a daily basis. The way he lectures is amazing, giving you great concepts. When he finishes his books I am so buying them. You need to learn how to do the midterms and essays. Midterm: "X was important because Z" USE THIS EXACT SENTENCE. Essays: "Although A, B and C, or Because B, C and not A." He'll go over it in class.

Dr Eifler is the best professor I have ever had. His lectures are fantastic and engaging and got me to think about history and historical analysis in a new way. Outside of class, he is helpful and friendly. I highly recommend going to him if you need help on a paper. Take Dr. Eifler. You will not regret it.

Dr. Eifler is an amazing lecturer! It basically feels like he is telling a story for an hour and a half.I feel like I came out with a great understanding of early american history. As far as difficulty level the papers are graded pretty easy, and he gives you a page of notes on his two test. Only a couple quizzes are given on book readings.

This class was good but really hard to study for. He gives hard tests that are difficult to study for. His power points are OK, but he is not clear on what exactly he wants you to know. He lectures using photos and some key words. I didn't really like this class. Awesome teacher, just bad teaching methods.
