While the 8AM lectures were long and boring, it does help to go to them. Just make sure you have coffee before, because otherwise you'll fall asleep. If you go to office hours, he's a really nice guy and wants to help, but it doesn't translate well to his lectures.

Prof Grinstaff is a horrible lecturer. You should not worry if you do not understand his lectures because everyone else does not understand them as well. Go to discussion sections as discussion leaders are little bit better. In order to succeed in this course, you should learn concept from non-mandatory homework problems because professor is bad.

Professor Grinstaff is the nicest teacher that I had, however the class is hard, especially if you haven't taken AP Chem. I suggest going to class, even though I barely went, because he will explain most of the topics that are on the test, and his office hours are extremely helpful. He really wants you to succeed.

Prof. Grinstaff is a nice guy but as not a great professor. His lectures are all over the place and he goes over the materials extremely fast. I did well in the class because I took AP Chem prior to this class, but most of my friends in the class have trouble staying up with his pace.

The 8am start time and the fact most people taking it have no interest in chem work against this class. What I like about it, though, is that you're independent; homework isnt collected and no one forces you to go to class, but if you don't do those things, you won't do too well. Attend lecture becausenot everything in the book is covered on tests

Pro. Ginstaff is a nice guy, but his lecture is on 8a.m. and boring. It seems a lot of notes to take in class, but that's basically brief summary of contents, some people may find those notes helpful, though. I literally learned much more in discussion session. Suggestion is, don't miss a single class and ask him for help if u need to.

Grinstaff is really nice but his lectures are horribly boring and I found them completely unhelpful. After the first test, I stopped going to lecture at all.

Grinstaff has only about good thirty minutes in classes of one hour and a half. After his good thirty minutes of teaching there is no point in staying in the classroom. He curves the sh*! out of your grades. I though I was gonna get a b-/c+ in the class, got a b+

Professor Grinstaff is a great researcher but he is absolutely unfit to teach. He lectures poorly and his students fail his tests. The class average is usually around a 50%. I found him useless as a teacher. You would be better off buying a chemistry book and learning from that than from Mark Grinstaff.

I took his chemistry class for non-biomedical engineers and found it pretty easy. He is a good teacher and is really into chemistry, but the lectures are boring. He is a likeable guy and will help you if you approach him. I never went to lecture and passed easily

He know what he's talking about and he's crazy passionate about it too. Will definitely try to get you excited about chemistry. Sometimes gets too wrapped up in his own world when he's putting stuff up on the board though. Good lecturer overall though.

BEST CHEM LECTURE TEACHER. Definitely better than Dill, and knows his stuff. Doesn't use that stupid CPS****, and explains concepts with enough examples. Pretty thorough in his explanations and is nice enough to summarize the lecture from a few days before. Plus, he always brings his own chalk. Who doesn't love that?

Grinstaff is nice and all, but his lectures are not interesting (well non of the chem professor's lectures are) and i feel he just talks straight out of the book. What saved me and everyone else in this course is just the discussions. CH 101 is not extremely difficult as everyone is saying but it is challenging and requires thorough preparation.

He's one of the better CH101 lecturers. The class is extremely difficult and there's a lot of work involved, however, he does help you and he is overall just a really nice guy.

Grinstaff is a really nice guy and a good lecturer. He makes mistakes a lot during class which can be confusing but his notes are easy to follow. He does not write the all of the tests, but his class is definitely useful for exams. Make sure you go to discussion and take advantage of every resource you have while in this class.

Amazing Professor. I really hated chem before I started his class and now I love it. Gen Chem is a weed out, so it is hard, but Prof. Grinstaff is very clear in his lectures and is extremely helpful in office hours. He has fun while teaching chem and the demos are the best. He prepares you really well for the tests. Definately Sign Up for him.

I was registered for Dill but went to Grinstaff because he is awesome. His lectures are clear, and he can answer any question on a dime. He prepares you fully for the exam, and is super nice. Plus, he uses nice chalk.

Crystal clear lectures. If you have any questions or problems he'll gladly help. One of the best professors i've had. Brilliant. Wears nearly the same outfit everyday and carries his own bag of chalk to lecture. He rules.

Comment:
Chem is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT because it is a weed out class. Your grade is directly correlated on previous Chem knowledge (AP Chem). That said, Grin makes class MUCH more enjoyable and comprehensible. Out of all the chem profs, he is definitely the best. TIP: Take CH109!!! its easier and not a weed out! (I really wish someone had told me that!)
