HIS TEACHING IS REALLY GOOD. BUT YOU HAVE TO BE INTO CLASS EVERYDAY TO PASS. OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE BEHIND AND THATS THE LAST THING YOU WANT. STRAIGHTFORWARD TEACHER. FUNNY. DIRECT WITH HIS EXPECTATIONS. WORK HARD AND STAY AFTER CLASS IF YOU NEED TO. TOTALLY WORTH IT

Dr. Ott has his own style of teaching, which i struggled with at the beginning of the semester but towards the end i developed a great appreciation for. This was not a push over class but I did learn some important skills and lastly UTYWTD.

Dr. Ott is my favorite professor this year and chemistry isn't even my major! He runs the class differently in that the material and methods learned are used in different ways. It's a hard class, but his goal isn't for you to fail- it's to learn to problem solve and think critically. His lectures are absolutely hilarious and I look forward to his c

If you are going to college to learn and to be challenged, I would recommend him as a teacher. Chances are, if someone left him a bad rating, it's because they expect to not have any homework, or to do the bare minimum and still get a 4.0. Chemistry is a 5 credit course, which guarantees a whole bunch of homework. Intimidating guy but will help.

Ott preps you for the real world where you have to engage, ask questions worth asking, and engage in critical thinking. You earn the grade you receive. Yes, you have to TRY outside of class and no you can't skip and still earn a grade. Ultimately he shows the real world isn't as easy as we think it is. Excellent chem and life lessons learned.

Doc Ott is definitely a very snarky and sarcastic person, but if you ask your questions in a halfway intelligent way, he'll give you a respectful answer. Having taken other Chem classes in the area, he's the only one who actually understands what he's teaching. If you want to learn Chem then he's your guy, but prepared to deal with some snark.

This class was challenging, but it's been my favorite class at JC for many reasons. The professor provides interesting and engaging lectures that bring out the students capability to think critically and solve problems. I would recommend this professor to a friend and would take another course with him.

Marc Ott is cocky, arrogant, and selfish. For a small class you would think he would be engaged with the students and considerate of their lives outside the class. Does not respect his students, and forgets that he's the professor. Lacks in ability to teach.

He's terrible. Hard to take a class when he doesn't do very well at explaining, and his quizzes are only there to trip you up.. Be prepared to not learn anything, and do outside research from YouTube. There's a reason why he's at Jackson College and not anywhere else. He's just doing this for the paycheck.

Doc Ott is great, not many people like him because he is a wise guy. Well get used to it. If you learn to how to talk to him it makes the class a lot easier. He is somewhat intimidating and only cares about your grade if you care. He may make you feel stupid but he tries to get straight to the point. Great professor just not what many are used to.

Boring. Get ready to zone out for most of his ridiculous powerpoints. I really hate it when professors teach off of powerpoints. How much more lazy can you get?

Incredibly amusing and entertaining. Your critical thinking skills will improve immeasurably. He's condescending to the slower learners, but if you're intelligent, and have a sense of humor, you'll dig him. A few tough block quizzes, but if you really work to understand the material, you'll do fine. Much nicer to his 142 students than 141.

This class was so boring. The only thing more boring than the lectures was his little rants before we had a lab. I wish he would have just explained the lab procedure in 5-10 minutes and then let us get into it. Instead, he decided to put us to sleep with his off tangent rants that I can't even remember what he was talking about. Take it elsewhere.

One of the worst professors I have ever taken. Cocky and arrogant, he will make the lectures seem like it's more about him trying talk about his life rather than explain the subject material. What is taught in class is very simple and could have been learned on your own time compared to his brutally hard quizzes. He does respond well to email.

Ott teaches his class as if its a 300 level program instead of a 140 level one at a community college, he is very intelligent but unless you have double x chromosomes don't expect any help from him.

Go to class&stay on task. Use your resources (tutor center). Understand more than the simple concepts covered in class. He does block quizzes, no tests. You don't need a book, just the lecture notes and sometimes the internet. Prepare ahead of time for lab and quizzes. Hard class but not so hard if you follow my words. He keeps you on your toes.

DocOtt is funny, sarcastic, & never boring. But he teaches one method of problem-solving in lecture, and then throws a complicated version (that you've never been taught) on the test...he doesn't prepare his students to be successful in his class. Expect to supplement your learning from Youtube university! But if you're brilliant, you'll love him!
