I vaguely remember the Grade I received, but it was likely a high C +Low B. However, without a doubt, this was the best teacher I have ever seen. Dr. Foran's personal influence on me led me to education, and I am a school principal. He's handsdown one of the most interesting and influential teachersprofessors out there.

Don't take this class if you're not interested in listening the entire time. However, if you are, be prepared for what I considered the best class I've taken at the U of C. Foran is extremely interested in what he teaches and it's infectious. Be prepared to listen and take notes, and you'll do very well.

One of these profs that can change your life! After taking this class randomly, I ended up taking all his classes! Max is an extremely passionate and knowledgeable lecturer. His lectures seek to push you out of your comfort-zone; engaging you in the discussion. Tough, fair, enlightened and approachable in my experience.

Foran is an amazing prof, best in the department. I have taken 3 courses with him and been impressed every time. He has really great stories to tell and is very passionate about the topics. Tests are very fair, but you need to go to class and do the assigned readings if you expect a good grade. Put in the effort and you will not be disappointed.

Great Prof. He gives hints as to whats on the final in class. His lectures are never boring, and if oyu pay attention and take decent notes you will be fine. He is a fair marker too, he says he is on your side and will give you marks if you kind of know something so write evrything you know on tests.

The epitome of an old school prof: lots of notes, very little electronic aids. That said he's start posting very basic lecture summaries which are nice. Expect a lot of work and listen carefully to his lectures which occasionally go off on a tangent. You'll only do poorly in his courses if you fail to work hard, plain and simple.

He is a nice professor, but often unclear at times. It is important to attend all classes, he does not post notes online and the textbook isn't very helpful. His easy tests and marking make up for a lot though. He is very passionate about the subject but is often unclear about what is expected on the paper and upcoming tests.

He seems like a really approachable prof from his lectures, but when you ask him a question out of class he is extremely rude and unhelpful. When I asked him a question about a paper, I left feeling like I had just been scoldeed in the Principal's office. His notes are clear; however, there is a lot to know for the exam.

I think that there should be a course on Max Foran. The dude is a legend in the making. He is definitely my favourite prof. Fair amount of work required and attendance and keeping up with the readings is mandatory (especially in his higher level classes), but it is all worth it in the end because you actually learn a lot of neat things.

CNST is my major and I was uncertain at first. But the way he teaches his classes makes me feel very enthusiastic about choosing Canadian Studies as a major. He`s very kind and he has awesome stories that relate to the content. He`s very enthusiastic and definitely wants you to do well in the course. He really knows what he`s talking about.

Excellent Prof! He's not an "easy marker", but his tests and grades given are very fair. He's very willing to help students and encourages student participation in class. He seems genuinely interested in what you have to say. I learned a lot in this class. You'll have to work hard, go to every class and pay close attention, but it will pay off!

Professor Foran was very enthusiastic! He made topics that I usually find boring interesting. Going to his lectures is very important since he doesn't use powerpoints, and the textbook was almost never used. His tests were also very fair, as he made it clear what he was expecting from you. I strongly recommend him if you choose to take this class.

This guy epitomizes old school teaching - all talk, little to no media aid. He presents the course with enthusiasm and a good mark is easily attainable. However, you do have to put in a significant amount of work like he warns you early on. He's long winded so lectures can be hard to follow at times, but if you keep up you're golden.

One of my favorite teachers I've come across over my 3 years so far at U of C. Would recommend him to anyone. He pushes you during the classes to actually think, however after taking his classes I found myself doing better in others as a result of the work ethic he instilled in me.

Max Foran may not be for some, as his lectures are all verbal and require intensive note taking. Tests are fair, but it was more difficult to get a good mark on the paper. Max's passion for the field is inspiring, and he's great for first year students as he has the tendency to scare you into working hard. A tremendously enjoyable course & prof.
