Show up and do what is asked and your good. If you pay attention to the lectures, you'll do well on exams. Lots of quizzes, exams and iLearn assignments, mean plenty of legroom with grading. She drops lowest scores. Low stress and kinda fun. Cool Lego watch. Recommended!

Miriam is a legend, while her classes may be boring at times she is super funny and an awesome resource. SHe has led me to an internship and has the best sense of humor.

This class is a nightmare but not hard to pass. Smith is nice but unbelievably disorganized. It's hard to distinguish what's important and what she just feels like talking about. Study guides are inaccurate, they are incomplete and make it seem like you need to know more than what is actually asked on the test. Tip: REVIEW ALL QUIZZES AND CHAPTERS.

Miriam acts like her students don't have anything else to do besides going to her class. That being said, her class sucks. You go for all 3 hours & are expected to listen to her bore you the entire time. She'll post homework on her website the day before her class & expect everyone to do it. You have to look alive if you want to get a good grade.

It was hard to keep up in the class bc she posts assignments online without telling students. Don't take this class unless you're actually interested in BECA and willing to sit through long lectures.

Quickly lost track of her assignments due to how randomly they were posted online. There is little to no warning when she will put up a reading quiz on iLearn, which makes it very difficult to plan out your reading schedule. Overall a nice person, but far too scattered/ unorganized.

Miriam is very nice, funny, & goofy. But she doesn't give notice about little assignments, they will pop-up on ilearn the day before class. Check before every class! Exams are hard, some have 10+ multiple choice options. There is a group presentation, she has a few pop quizzes too. She takes attendance randomly, pretty strict on being late.

Miriam is super disorganized but really nice. She takes roll once at the beginning of class and once at the end of the three hour class. She would regularly go over the three hour time. The lecture was boring but she's funny and not too serious. Her tests were tough, but she gives you ample opportunity to pass the class.

It's true that the class is loosely organized (to say the least) I agree that there isn't nearly enough coverage of important media knowledge or substantial learning happening in the 3 hr class. But Miriam is so entertaining it nearly makes up for it. I think encouraging students to have fun with media study is important in an intro pre-req course

Smith has an amusing, laid back sense of humor. She teaches for fun and has fun with teaching. Her enthusiasm and love for media carries into her lectures and spontaneous lesson exercises that get the class thinking creatively. Good media pitch practice. You decide the grade you want & put in the work for it on your own time. She's a lot of fun.

She basically lets the students teach the class. If you read and do the assignments you will get an A. Simple as that.

Despite the poor reviews I've seen on here, I found her to be very knowledgable in broadcast media. She was very funny but her classes tended to be very disorganized. You can essentially choose your grade based on A, B, or C criteria for each assignment.

It was super frustrating to sit in this class for 3 hours, and not do or learn anything. Her grading is super confusing and doesn't know how to update it. Try and take any other professor if you can. She is really nice, but let's everyone just fool around. Very unclear with assignments and tests are easy if you study the study guides she posts.

Miriam is a nice, and cool lady. Not the greatest teacher but you will at least learn some stuff. The syllabus can change throughout the semester as far as assignments go, but you can decide your own fate in her class. If you show up and do the easy work it's fine, the class is just sort of a waste of time in general...

once you get the syllabus for this class, burn it. you will never, EVER use it. not only is there absolutely NO structure whatsoever in her class, assignments listed rarely happen. we spent most class meetings doing useless group presentations on (shocker) infotopics with no actual value (too lazy to actually lecture?). I learned nothing. RUN.

Smith is great -a true college professor. She gives you all of the materials necessary to learn/obtain information (Need to know how to clear music? Write a contract?) that you will definitely refer back to (plus, she allows for cheat-sheets on all exams/quizzes). She is undeniably bright and incredibly zen. Don't take if you need your hand held.

She makes the class environment fun, but this is not a class for people who NEED structure. The classes are about as linear and structured as the path of crashing plane in a tailspin, but the information is there if you pay attention. I not only got an A, I learned a lot of valuable information about media law.

Contrary to belief Miriam DOES know her stuff. She's just not super strict about it, she gives you the freedom to take away what you'd like. Its just that most students take advantage of it & slack off then complain they didn't learn anything later. Put in the work, drop by her office, get what you want out of the experience. She's really cool
