Comment:
Her Biochemistry class is not hard - questions come right from the textbookslides. Yes, you will have to memorize mechanisms and comparecontrast, just get over it. Hopkins, however, is useles and her HWs are BS. When asked to explain something she'll say, "I understand, but I can't explain it to you." Come on, Nance, you're the professor.

Yes, you have to know the mechanisms and pathways and comparecontrast between things. What else would you expect from a biochemistry course that's prepping you for med school or grad school? Really prepared me for the new 2015 MCAT. Ask for *help* on the homework and she'll talk with you - don't ask for answers. Pop quizzes are fine if you read.

LITERALLY THE WORST. I've gotten all A's in my other pre-med and cell&molec classes but her class is impossible and I'll be happy to get a B. Her grading is so harsh and you literally have to memorize the book and that's not always enough. Even when the entire class does horribly she won't curve. Good luck, I can't wait for this class to be over

If you, like me, are a bio major without friends that are bio majors, make friends - the homework is painful. Moreover, stay well ahead of where she is in the book. There's no use crying about her being a terrible teacher because she's your only choice. My advice is to accept a B here :( (not that I'm a B student) and do well in your other classes.

Dr. Hopkins is truly a sweet lady. However, her lectures are utterly slow. The beginning should be taught much more quickly, as she reaches the most complicated and difficult concepts when it's far too late. Less condescension and less attitude from the TAs would go a long way. Tests hardly reflect her bad lectures

In a categorization of professorship that includes "god-tier, good, average, and bad," Hopkins belongs in a category of her own, located below "bad." Consistently late, spent ~20min/class complaining about technology, our stupidity, and probable inability to get into med school. Can't even read her own slides w/o stuttering. Got my A and got out.

Dr. Hopkins is one of the worst professors I have encountered. I have received very good grades in all my premed classes including orgo, but this one is by far the most frustrating and difficult classes for me. The material isn't that hard, but listening to her whiny, high pitched voice for 4.5 hours/ week is horrible.

Nancy Hopkins is the worst professor I've ever had. Her lectures were an utter bore. She never had a single nice thing to say about her students, going so far as to practically berate our stupidity (I'm sorry isn't this a 400 level class? Haven't we made it this far?) She is far too old to still be teaching. Her age shows. Sorry Nance. You suck.

She shows up late to class every day, spends at least 30 minutes complaining about the technology or the students taking the course. Tests aren't too difficult, but the homework assignments are insanely hard (research required) and the pop quizes are pretty brutal. She crams information in the last test and final, as in 2 chapters per week.

Miserable class. She can't get through ANYTHING without muttering "uh" a few times before reading each line from a powerpoint- which is word for word from the book. Tests are elementary but going to class (mandatory) is painful.

Horrible teacher. needs to retire. 8am. painfully slow first 2 tests without realizing and left us in the dust the 3rd test. 10 very hard clicker quizzes= 1 test. spends the first 30 min of each class screaming at us about how we'll never go to med school. Terrible tests, not that hard, just very poorly put together. worst teacher I've ever had.

Very boring lecturer and attendance is mandatory (and class are usually at 8am). She doesn't curve at all. Homework and open-ended test questions are poorly worded. She never directly answers questions.

She was very fair and her tests were not too hard if you spend some time with the material. You do need to go to class though bc the quizzes are worth 100pts total. Very fair final. Lots of chances to get bonus points. It is biochem...so obviously its going to be a challenge, but way better than orgo.

Her class wasn't too bad and she is a pretty chill grader who gives you many opportunities to get a good grade. If you go to class and put in even a little bit of effort, you should not get lower than a B. She is also a very nice, sweet old lady albeit a pretty boring lecturer. That's the only knock on her. Her classes are very boring.

All right, for those people who think her class is hard...you probably need a new major or career path. Her class is very fair, she gives you many opportunities to do well. The class is out of 800 points. 3 exams- 300 points. Final- 200 points. HW/class attendance- 200 points. Clicker quizzes- 100 points. Easy A if you spend 3-6 days before exam.

Lectures are sort of rambling, but he study guide is exactly what you should know for the test. She is very helpful one on one and very willing to help. homework is hard, she does give pop quizzes. The material by nature is very complex, it is not the best class to take at 8 AM. I'm pretty sure that is the only section however.

Her lectures were very vague and unclear. She doesn't emphasize anything, and she never gives concise answers to questions. Her homework and test problems were very poorly worded. It's very hard to know exactly what kind of answer she's looking for. I didn't think the final was fair by any means. Wouldn't recommend her for anything.

Her tests are harder than the final. the final was 90% questions from the first 3 tests. study the book because her notes are sometimes wrong and the write answer comes from the book

Dr. Hopkins is a great professor, but very hard. She's really nice and tries to point out what to learn, but you will need to know the structures and mechanisms literally backwards and forwards.
