Comment:

Russ is the man. He excels as a production professor and I always liked him as a theory professor. Plus he has awesome, unique taste in film (Polanski, Lee Marvin, etc) which people would know if they got to know him. So he doesn't respond to emails and tweets in an hour? So what? Russ' beard > you.

Comment:

Had him for 282 and 283 as well. Russ is an great teacher. His lectures can get a little bit boring at times, but that is only when he's teaching you how to use software like Final Cut or Pro Tools. He gives well thought out criticism of your films, and expects you to do the same for others. To top it all off, the guy is incredibly nice as well.

I could understand this man not replying to emails if he were deaf, blind and dumb, but hes not. Outside the class room he Im sure he is a nice guy but how he got into a classroom I'll never know...lackluster career?

2 years ago I went into the film program and had russ for 131.He claimed I didnt turn in my paper.Russ would not respond to my emails.When I put pressure on him from higher up that he allowed me to resubmit my paper.He then preceded to sit on my paper until he had to give me a grade.He gave me an F. I fought his grade and stayed in the program.

Russ is an amazing PRODUCTION teacher. All of you who had him for MP 131 will have a bad taste in your mouth because he does not usually teach theory. That's Derry/lafferty's department. However, if you're not an idiot and you made it to sophomore year then you probably already know what a great teacher russ is. Russ teaching Theory was a bad idea.

Helpful, patient, and very informative. Russ is soft-spoken, so pay attention! Whenever I needed help, he was always willing to take the time to work on the problem. A good filmmaker in his own right.

Mr. Johnson will not inspire you. He will not help you. He will not educate you. While he will be funny at some points, for the most part his lectures are dry and boring. He taught our film class and did not give us our papers back that were worth 50% of our grade until the quarter was over. He also will not respond to e-mails so don't bother. goo
