Comment:

If you are going to be a CSCI major you really hit the jackpot. Nic is one of those teaches that is just so good at explaining difficult concepts. One of my favorite Nic sayings is "And I don't think it's entirely obvious...". Take all the classes you can with him and soak up the knowledge! If you are a non-CSCI major, still take his classes 10/10.

Comment:

Nic is a wonderful professor. He is really kind and makes lectures interesting, even if they are about very basic stuff. I had never taken a CSci course before and he made it really interesting and had me briefly thinking I should add a CSci minor to my degree. He is a great professor and I am very glad I got to have a class with him.

Comment:

This was a life changing class. Nicholas McPhee is the reason why I love software and want to be a software engineer. Nic was there way beyond more than he needed to be. He would go beyond his way just to simply help students like me who were struggling to inspire us to learn from what makes software development hard as a magical experience!

Comment:

Nic is an amazing professor. CSCI 1302 is very hard to begin with and he makes you work for it, but Nic is very patient and will always take questions. His lectures are very helpful and clear and he will do everything he can to help you. Homework is challenging and the exams are tough, but if you put in the time and effort you will do just fine.

Nic is awesome. He encourages student collaboration and questions. He answers questions so well and wants you to understand. He explains things very slowly and clearly, making sure everyone is following. The homework assignments help you learn so much! All exams were open notes. Go to class, pay attention, and don't hesitate to ask questions.

Sometimes Nic went off on little unrelated tangents, but they were always interesting and about something in the field. We rarely read the textbooks we got; maybe we read a total of 2 chapters in 3 books. He was always a slow grader, but I never minded that too much.

Comment:

Mr. McPhee is a wonderful professor. He will always work hard to help his students succeed if they show interest in asking for help. His tests are challenging, and it's recommended that students take advantage of other tutors and classmates for assistance. Overall, worth it to take this course, although it's a good challenge.

My worst experience with a class @UMM. Nic did not teach us hardly anything, then announced in the last month that he was going to give a final worth 75% of the grade. Nic pretends to be everyone's friend, but he's certainly not!!!! Like other UMM CSCI faculty, he is deeply involved in playing favorites to the Division Chair's son & the suck-ups.
