Gooch is a very good teacher. He is very passionate about his subject and it is easy to tell that he isn't teaching just as a job. It's his life. He loves what he does. He is very helpful. He can be a more difficult professor because he is so interested in the subject but if you take time and put in the effort you really can learn a lot from him.

G intentionally makes cell bio very difficult. Grades on a "strict bell curve" to weed out the premed masses. Wished teaching was more relevant to the med world & MCAT. I worked very hard & got a C. But didn't give up my med school dreams--> buckled down w/ Kaplan, scored decent -MCAT, was initially denied, but got in after obtaining a BIO MA.

His lectures can be interesting. Can be extremely intimidating in person, but extremely knowledgible. Don't fall asleep upfront, trust me on that. Tests are generally easy if you know your stuff.

I think this guy needs to retire. He doesn't give very good notes for this class in my opinion and I feel like his tests are purposefully trying to trick you, even if you know the material perfectly just to make him seem like a tough grader (which in his mind must equal good)

Entertaining in lecture - but uncomfortable to speak with 1-1. Easy labs and lab points! But tests were hard and material was confusing to me. I did much worse than in the other two bio classes I'd already taken.

Frustrating class for students who have a good grasp of biological concepts. I always felt a little unmotivated in this course and didn't need to study.

Fun in lecture; Rude in person! Accussed me of cheating on an exam I scored nearly perfect on because my wording was too simliar to his key (which I suppose I magically?) however even after showing him my diction came from the textbook he insisted on a retest. Passed it, but still very rude to me.

Great Prof. Tests aren't to bad if you keep up with the reading. Labs are easy. Very helpful!

Cell Bio was the first Bio course I did well in at UMM (after taking 2 others). Gooch explains concepts fairly well, but is a pretty tough prof, especially on testing.
