His two big things: fingering and pedaling. Dr. C is fantastic and the best choice for improving your pianistic technique and note accuracy, especially with his signature metronome method, but for musicality, I recommend taking lessons from someone else. Also, he has very low standards, but you'll learn so much if you work hard and learn the music.

Follow his instructions, he will take you to your goal. Be aware of practicing with metronome, it's necessary and also one of his favorite things. He is a brilliant pianists and excellent professor. Hope everybody enjoy his solo and collaborative recitals! If you practice in his way and come to the lesson with full confidence, you will have fun!

Dr. Collins is a great professor. No textbooks needed for this class. But he assigns reading assignment every one or two weeks. Those articles serve as textbook. Be sure to read it in time and be able to discuss in class. The exams are not hard as along as you come to the lecture . He is a very humorous guy. He may brighten your day.

He's an incredible pianist as well as an encouraging mentor. He cares a lot about his students and will go out of his way to help them with whatever they need to the best of his abilities. Plus he's got a great sense of humor and an engaging lecture style. If you want to take lessons, I recommend him!

He is great until you don't understand a concept. He speaks down to his students frequently and makes rude comments to you when you don't understand. He was not helpful and literally walked away from me during a question because he didn't know what to do. I love the piano, and I'm not bad, but I did hate going to class embarrassed.

Comment:
My experience in Mr. Collins' class has ranged between tolerable and virtually insufferable, but never really educational, illuminating, or even fun. If you're skilled at piano, beware. Likewise, if you're helplessly bad, beware. Maybe his teaching skills work better on higher level piano courses, but for beginning pianists, his methods are BAD.

Dr. Collins does take things a little slowly, but it's for the benefit of the class. He is always cheerful, but of course expects you to practice (come on, at least a little!) and not crash around on the piano while he is trying to teach. Just practice for the mid-terms and you'll be fine.

I think Dr. Collins can be a nice enough guy, but he CAN be a little patronizing at times. Also, if you've ever touched a piano before, you might wanna avoid him, because incredibly slow and will put you to sleep.

Very very easy if you have had piano before. If not, it is still easy, you just have to work at it a bit more. Daily Quizes make up the majority of your grade, so practice! He is always nice though and gives you some time to practice in class. Easy A.
