Comment:
Dr. Palmer lectures because he likes hearing himself speak; nothing useful from lectures. 4-5 papers per semester. A "tough" grader; brown nose in office hours and you're fine, if you don't... Takes personal offense when students don't go to class; will make sure they don't get an A (has a literal list). No feedback on papers. Very condescending.

Dr. Palmer is a great lecturer who really knows his stuff. He likes to give time to answer questions in class, and he manages to covers a lot of material in a one hour block, which makes the classes very interesting.

I tried hard to like Dr. Palmer. In the end I couldn't. Everything he grades is so subjective I couldn't figure out how to do well even after discussing the prompts with him in depth during office hours. Once he just didn't show up and canceled class for a week. No matter how much I went to see him I couldn't get him to care, what a waste.

Easily one of the best professors in the department. Clear and concise, never straying beyond the limits of the subject matter (as Biro often does). Taught ancient wonderfully. He's not a fan of fluff (in writing or in person) so know your material well and come to class prepared. People whine a lot, but I secured an A easily.

Class was stupid easy. The professor is very laid back, often showing up late. He knows his stuff though. Make sure to do readings and you'll be fine. He gives out A's like they're free pancakes.

I took the mandatory-for-all-freshman class, "What Is The Good Life" and i thought it would be easy. I'm an Engineer and by no means a writer, this class felt like an English class more-so than a class on the meaning of a good life. Palmer is a Philosophy professor and it shows. Take w/ a different professor if you don't like writing.

Yes, I heard horror stories about Palmer before enrolling in the mandatory-for-my-major Ancient Philosophy PHH 3130. The subject matter is taxing and difficult (Ancient covers ALL areas of philosophy), but if you: A. Read, REALLY READ, the things before class and B. Take meticulous notes in lecture the class is extremely rewarding. Great professor!

Dr. Palmer is the worst professor I have had a UF. I had him for What is the Good Life. It was an interesting class, but impossible to succeed in. I also enjoy typing my notes and Palmer would not allow me to do this. He is also very full of himself and hard to follow. I went to office hours and studied more then I did for other classes, not worth

Dr. Palmer is a great professor! He really cares about his students and goes out of his way to help you if you ask. He is very intelligent, and funny if you pay close attention. Do not take his class if you don't want to work or learn.

He was one of the best professors I ever had. His lectures are great! He brings philosophy back down to the practical. He wants to ensure that his students get an education, so he uses tactics to get them to stay on track. If you aren't interested in learning, then don't take his class. But if you are insightful and engaged, he'll like you.

Difficult class, Palmer can seem pretentious but he just wants students to get a good education. If you show him respect and that you are trying he will be the best professor you have. He expects hard work and is not an easy A but I feel like I have learned a lot from his classes (I've taken him twice now) which is why I am in college.

This is an extremely easy class. The only difficult thing is writing all the essays, but Palmer doesn't grade them. Depending on your TA that is. Palmer teaches the readings, but leaves the questions out for you to think about it. The class is interesting, but make sure to actually think about the material and write well.

Great professor. Taking him for a second semester. Seems pretentious but awesome one on one. Will improve your writing. Best PHI prof at UF in my opinion. Learned more from him than any other. His class if hard, but if you are in school to learn he will help you. He is very understanding of personal situations if you keep him in the loop.

Extremely pretentious. Doesn't answer questions in class and refuses to recognize viewpoints different from his own. When he does take a question, he disregards the student's opinion and doesn't answer the question. He may know the material, but is not open to others' opinions as if his interpretation is the ONLY interpretation that is correct.

Dr. Palmer is a good professor and a nice guy, but stay away from this class if you're taking it as a general elective. There are no prerequisites for the course, but you will have a really hard time if you haven't taken Logic. Prepare to write a small paper every week and know the readings inside and out.

He really worked to improve peoples writing and reasoning skills. Some of the students clearly didn't belong in the class. He may have been slightly rude to some students, but only to the students were where constantly interrupting class. He did try to lock one student out of the classroom, which was amusing. Don't be late!!!

he's a good teacher, but it's hard to get an A. He can be rude at times when students interrupt his class in anyway, including questions. But, he's very easy-going 1 on 1. Don't expect an easy A, but if you make a C, you propbably shouldn't be majoring in philosophy.

Not a bad teacher. You have to go to class. But he explains everything very clearly. It's true that he doesn't like to take questions but judging from my other philosophy classes, that's because people don't ask questions, they simply make pretentious statements. He's willing to take any real questions at office hours or after class.
