I took both semesters of general chemistry with Dr. Marano and I loved it! She explains information well in lectures and answers all questions. I started going to her office hours more second semester and I noticed that it really helped me understand the content more, and she was always eager to help everyone who went.

Dr. Marano is the best! I took both semesters of gen chem with her, plus lab second semester. It is not an easy class, but she loves when students see her during office hours/problem sessions and she will literally answer any question you have or explain anything. She gives a ton of partial credit and her expectations are very clear.

Tough grader. Unapproachable, does not understand how some students do not understand content as well as others.

By far the worst professor/ teacher I have ever had. For an intro class she graded very harsh. Also, she is the worst lecturer I have ever seen. She is absolutely terrible at explaining content and is very condescending when you ask questions. She expects you to understand everything, even though she doesn't explain anything.

Great prof for students who can appreciate and understand the sciences. Sure, she has little sympathy for students who are slow to grasp concepts. She doesn't like stupid questions. That said, she is super approachable, sweet, and IS personable. She LOVES students who can explain and reason through problems. Glad I took lecture and lab with her!

Pretty impersonable. Not very understanding of outside circumstances that may cause you to miss class, and will treat you like an idiot if you don't immediately get what she is trying to explain. Seek another professor.

Dr. Marano is amazing! She is very clear in her lectures, and you will always know what to expect on quizzes and tests. She also tells the best geeky chemistry puns each day, which helps make the class enjoyable. I enjoyed the semester, and plan on continuing with her next semester.

Dr. Marano is the best teacher to take Gen Chem with. Her expectations are very clear, and there are lots of resources available to prepare for quizzes and exams. Don't get the textbook. It is available online for free, but you probably won't use it anyway.

Dr. Marano is a very caring and nice professor. She knows what she is talking about and is able to explain it in ways for others to understand. She constantly has geeky chemistry jokes that she will laugh at and it makes the class enjoyable. Marano posts her schedule in case someone needs to meet her. She is tough, but it is possible to do well.

Comment:
Dr. Marano is very good prof for students who understand chem well. However, she cannot seem to wrap her head around how someone might not be able to immediately grasp chem concepts, and will act rude and condescending to them in response. I would not recommend her at all, as she is incredibly useless at helping students who struggle even a little.

She is one of the most socially awkward professors I have ever had but an amazing teacher! Her teaching style is to those who already understand the basics and learn best by trying to understand the reasoning behind science. Make sure to participate to gain favor, she counts sig figs. Love her to death, now my advisor!

Dr. Marano is a very smart professor. However, if you struggle at all with learning chemistry I would not recommend taking a class with her. She can be very intimidating if you have questions about the content. Quizzes/exams are fine if you do the practice problems in the textbook. Very understanding, and available outside of class to help.

Comment:
I loved chemistry and our chemistry department, until I took 104 with Marano. Compared to the other professors, she is the worst. I made it through 103 with ease, but now in her class she makes it more difficult than it should be. The course work isn't hard, she just doesn't know it and refuses to accept that fact.

Comment:
Dr. Marano is not very personable to her students. A very smart woman, however maybe not the correct professor for a lower level class. Expects everyone to know everything perfectly, and is not the best at explaining questions. Quizzes are always out of 10 points which is tough to get a really good grade. Condescending at times.

Dr. Marano is not an easy teacher, however, she is a very good one. If you don’t plan to put in time, her classes will be difficult and you probably won’t do very well. If you do follow along, you will learn a lot and you will learn it well. If you like teachers that know what they’re talking about, give Nadia a try.

Don't listen to the bad comments below, she was an excellent teacher. She mainly teaches biochem so at times she doesn't clarify as well as she could, but if you ask for help she will give it to you. Online Textbook. Tests are fair and are on the information she taught in class, most have EXACT problems from class. I loved this class.

I would say she is a very good and fair teacher. She grades tough but you can always expect to know what will be on the test by looking at your notes. Some homework problems she assigns are a little unnecessary, but if you work hard in the class you will do very well, and learn a lot.
