Comment:
Acker is a very interesting character and he really does mean well but, he speaks in metaphors. If you do not already have a strong sense of philosophy and traditional Christianity this course will be confusing. He speaks from personal experience and is very smart, he just isn't very clear. You can pass without problem just hard to get to class.

Acker is a brilliant person and made me appreciate Philosophy. He encourages open mindedness and wants everyone to feel like their opinions are valid. He mostly lectures but occasionally holds small discussions. His tests are usually a mix of multiple choice, matching, diagrams, and short answer. He breaks the concepts down and simplifies them.

Comment:
Acker teaches the Bible as a historical text based of of other religions. He can be boring and is incredibly redundant. He does NOT read the papers he assigns! Take lots of notes! He likes to put random facts and dates in his tests that draw from class, handouts, and the text. Very rarely does he actually test on stuff from the bible reading.

Acker teaches the Bible as a historical text, which errs some evangelicals. He's a brilliant man and a wonderful teacher. His test are clear and require an understanding of biblical history. I learned a lot.

He is very nice. The class is not too bad. Take A LOT of notes, and study for exams. They are easy. He is very boring though, try not to fall asleep during lecture (it's very hard not to). Oh btw, he does NOT read the papers he assigns! I think he gives everyone a check. Easy points so don't pass them up. If need be hand in an eng paper :)

Good teacher. You need to take a lot of notes if you are do not know the ideas in the bible well. Do all the papers, they are easy points (just be sure to answer the 5 questions). Don't sleep and you should be fine.

The class was easy for me. Just be sure to do the papers. They do not have to be great papers just make sure you answer the five questions he asks you to answer. If you have never read or heard about the old testament then the concepts may be difficult to understand. Take good notes and study before the tests.

I took ancient western civilization and thoughts last semester. He didn't seem interested in the class. He always let us out early by 15 minutes. He never used the textbooks in the class except the final exam. Write the papers, and you're guaranteed an A in the class.

You can't find to many bible "scholars" at Christian schools who are really capable of going against the majority. He teaches the Bible as it is, a historcial document, socio-politically and historical-crtically. I thoroughly enjoyed his class, lectures, and teachings. Great professor.

Hands down the most brilliant teacher I have ever taken. I don't understand how anyone could ever say anything bad about this guy. His intelligence and yearning for more intelligence is inspiring. He sits in other classes just to learn on top of teaching his own and will explain ideas from all perspectives. First day of class he explained how h

Acker is breathtakingly insightful. Thought provoking and deep. Pay attention in class and take good notes. Much of Eastern's faculty is irritatingly liberal. Although Acker is proabably more to the liberal side he can actually backup his thoughts and ideas biblically which is crucial. Look up stats and references he brings up in class.

Acker is an amazing professor! He's full of information that will both offend a modern Christian, though he is very respectful, and help a young Christian grow in new directions. He's easy to talk to, as well. His test can be a challenge, but if one does the assigned reading and takes notes, his class really isn't hard at all.

Prof Acker is a wonderful professor. He does lecture a little during class, but he is always available before and after class to chat and he is actually very enthusiastic about what he teaches. I had him for two classes this semester and would recommend him in a second. ACKER RULES!!!

He takes attendence the first couple of classes but after that just make sure you go every now and then. Make sure you get the notes though, because that is where he gets the questions for the tests.

I had Professor Acker for both New Testament + Western Civ. in the Spring '07. He's an excellent teacher and very willing to provide extra help and explanations for his students. He brought the class material to life and made it very enjoyable. Also very approachable and compassionate--an all-round really nice guy and example of true Christianity.

Acker is really cool. At first I wanted to kill myself, but as the class progressed I liked it more and more. He is really open to conversation and exploratory thinking. He grades his papers pretty fairly, if you are competent you should get an A. He has alot of interesting perspectives, if you have the pleasure of having him, make the most of it.
