I was expecting this class to be really hard but I actually ended up getting an A. She's a great teacher as long as you pay attention in lectures. Tests come straight from her lectures and practice exams. She thoroughly goes over all concepts so pay attention. Class is mandatory and there are clicker questions.

She teaches BIO101 for pre-allied med students, but I took if for my science credit and got a B. She is extremely clear explaining everything, and answers all questions. Don't bother buying the book unless you really want to study outside of class - print the lecture slides!!! That's how you will pass her tests. Overall she is an amazing professor.

Professor Lake is a great lecturer. She explains concepts very clearly and well. Tests are very detailed oriented, but there are never any surprises. Everything is taken straight from class lectures. Extremely fair grader. Go to class, take good notes, do the practice exams and clicker questions and you will do very well.

Easiest class ever. Show up and do clicker problems, that'll help boost your grade at the end of class. 3 exams and 1 gets dropped. I used the book to study (Only $14 on Amazon) and I got A's on all of my tests. Just pay attention and study, you'll do just fine. Final was so easy that I got a 100%. Hope to have her again :)

Dont buy book. Provides incomplete slideshows which are completed in class. Only counts 2/3 highest test scores (100pts. ea) + final (100pts). Very fair grader and rounds up if students attend class. Tests are straight from the slides, but every piece of information is crucial. Final is taken from the 3 tests and reworded slightly. Easy A

This class was very difficult, but she couldn't have taught it any clearer. Exams were based off of things she said in class so don't skip. She is very approachable and helpful if you go to office hours. Very passionate about what she teaches and overall a great professor. You will do well if you keep up with your studying.

She is very kind and friendly you can always walk straight up to her. Her exams can be really tricky and difficult but you simply have to study. When she says start studying, do it. Cramming will not get you an A in Biology no matter how great your memory works. If you put the time in, you will get what you put in. Great + is she drops lowest exam

Excellent professor. Her exams are based on what she says in class, but reading the book is extremely helpful. You can tell she is passionate about what she teaches. The class is hard, but she will help you in every way she can. Her grading is definitely fair, but harsh. I hope I have her again!

Very articulate, concise, straight forward, and helpful. One of the best at UMBC. If you pay attention to lectures and labs and study for the quizzes and tests, it should be an easy A. Only part I did not like was the oral presentations, but if you do well in other parts of the class then this should not affect your grade that much

very tough class, but she is a great professor. 3 exams and cumulative final. Her exams are very detail oriented, so you must learn everything. The best thing you can do is go to lecture and take notes. To make sure I got everything I recored lecture, which is the most useful thing you can do to prep for exams.

This class is incredibly difficult for a non major course. It feels like pre med, I wouldn't recommend this class because its EXTREMELY overwhelming and alot of work. The teacher is helpful but shes long winded which makes getting through lectures a pain. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this.

Dr. Lake is, by far, one of the best profs at UMBC. Her lectures are clear, she is very approachable, and her tests are very fair. No tricks. She only asks questions that will confirm you've been paying attention in class. It was annoying that 20% of our grade was based on a group project, but other than that, no complaints.

Great teacher. Made it easy to understand the material as long as you pay attention and take notes. If you do a good amount of studying then you should get by this class pretty easy. I didn't even have a book and got a B. I would've got an A but I skipped the discussion section too many times and missed quizzes. She's also hawt.

I think a good word to describe Lake is fair. The material can be tough at times but she explains everything so well. She is very sweet but she won?t take anyone?s crap either. She prepares you for the tests with practice exams and thorough lectures. Don?t buy the book; her slides are so much better. One of the best teachers I?ve had.

I can not believe people actually thought she was "easy". NOT AT ALL!!! For this course to be non major course you would think we are in med school. Too hard. But I passed the course with a C.

bio 101 was a bio class for preprofessional students, so the class itself wasn't too hard. don't get the textbook, you don't need it. she's very helpful and clear. her exams are completely doable, just as long as you study and understand the concepts. take extra notes during the powerpoints, to do well! i got an A in the class.

wonderful teacher. had for human org, she takes into consideration we're no bio majors and makes sure we understand, really good lectures, and she really tries to help you know the stuff. exams can be tricky, but she posts a practice exam before, and if you study her lectures you'll be fine. you really dont need the book.
