Comment:
Professor Leslie is a pretty decent professor. It was hard to hear him as he mumbles when speaking, so you really have to listen to him. The recitation is what really helped me. The subject matter is interesting, but he goes through it very quickly.

Agree with most of the comments below. He does mumble throughout lecture and all he does is lecture no class participation, participation is at recitation which is once a week, and you have lecture twice a week. Although he is hard to understand going to lecture helps. Tests are really hard because there are so many painting to memorize.

He's pretty decent if you decide to go to class, unless you try to read the book, do not take the class. Too much memorization involve. There is a paper that he could grade, so avoid letting him grade it, The TA's grade most of the stuff.

Fairly easy class. Lectures aren't required, but if you go, the class is a breeze. Fair grading. 3 tests, 3 quizzes, 1 paper. 1 test and 1 quiz are take home. I didn't go to class for a couple weeks and only studied 30 minutes before class and still got a grade in the 80s. Not too difficult. Definitely would take another class of his

Leslie is an extremely interesting professor, his class was definitely worth taking. He does assign a decent amount of work, a lot of essays. Test are not hard, one of them is a take home. Studying from the textbook is enough to do well but his lectures are actually pretty interesting. The only thing is that he could definitely speak clearer.

Atrocious professor. Mumbles through lecture, can't stay focused, and completely unclear about the topics he's trying to cover. Most of the material I learned on my own or from the TAs.

Attendance isn't mandatory, but going to class and paying attention will prevent you form doing the reading. Avoid at all cost to get papers graded by him, the TAs are nicer when it comes to grading. Overall the class is veyr interesting (101 and 102). And you just need to memorize images and their information for the test. Essays are very easy.

I really enjoyed Professor Leslie. Yes the class is hard, but if you know the images and the basic information that goes along with them. 3 midterms, 3 quizzes and 1 paper. Lecture attendance is not mandatory but recommended and recitation is mandatory. If you enjoy art history, you will enjoy this class.

Nice enough guy but not great with technology. A couple of times he tried to get away with talking without his microphone in one of the Javits lecture halls. His tests weren't actually that hard for an Art History course, he uses the standard format and gave us one take home. You do have to read the book and then it's easy.

very interesting, buawful when it comes to the shear load of material, i wouldnt ever suggest this class to anyone. the professor is very nice, but he makes awful, akward tests that are overloaded with too much, and despite great efforts, my grades didnt reflect the effort. Dont take this professor and class unless you must (if you are art major)

if you're into art history, hes great. if not he's still pretty interesting but might be a little confusing. studying is a lot of memorization. 4 page paper on museum trip which you can go with him optionally and hear his lecture or by yourself. tests are pretty straightforward. recitations are mandatory but very helpful.

Took this class over the summer. A lot of work, ten pages midterm, 8-10 pages final, presentation, and some reading. Easy A with some effort. Class is very interesting, many trips. I am never an art person but I love the class!

This guy talks way too fast and is too hard to keep up with. If you do take art history, try to get Jennie Goldstein for your TA. In some ways, she's better than this guy.

Leslie is a good person and has some interesting stories to tell. It's obvious he has a genuine passion for art history, which is great, but some find his lectures boring. I found them fascinating, and he includes interesting visuals and even personal pictures he's taken on trips to ancient art monuments. The textbook will help a lot for exams.

Very kind and knows his stuff. Goes off on his own tangents though, and class might be hard for those not into Art History. Great TA's - esp Amanda Bates, try to get her if you can. Memorization is important, but cultural context is key. Do your work and you'll be fine. I got A's without using the text, but notes are CRUCIAL! GO TO LECTURE!

Hes not bad nd he knows what hes talking bout, but his way of teaching it doesnt really get thru too well. He just puts up pictures nd rambles on and on and on and on and on... don't take his class just for a DEC. i only recommend him for those who are actually interested in art history. other than that, i could never stay awake in that class
