Not really the greatest professor I've taken. He's a nice guy and is very friendly but assigns way to much work back to back. Get ready to write an essay that you've been working on for almost 2 weeks just to have another one due next class. NO FEEDBACK AT ALL ON ESSAYS. It's all peer review and guidelines can be unclear at many points in the class

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! He doesn't teach you anything. He does not give you any feedback. All you do is just a bunch of peer review. Unclear guidelines and can't properly work with Canvas and internet in general. Worked my butt off only to get a B. He does not round even if you're +89.5. Hays is def the WORST teacher I've ever had. DO NOT TAKE

Took English1B as an 8-week course. Even at the accelerated pace, Professor Hays was fantastic. Homework assignments took 10 minutes and doubled as a spot on study guide for the midterm & final. Papers were all on interesting topics and led to great discussions. Follow his essay structure, take his feedback, and his class will be rewarding.

I would HIGHLY recommend Professor Hays. He was super funny, good vibe and everyone really enjoyed his class. Easy to get either A or B if you do your work. There were about 5 essays for the semester but gave a decent amount of time to work on it with a lot of peer review too. Easy weekly homework which takes 10 minutes to do. Cool guy, Take Him.

one of the best professors i have ever taken. nice, funny, and gives good feedback on essays. peer reviews were annoying, but essay prompts were super easy. one midterm and one final. both were true&false questions based on the homework. homework are fill ins from the book. super easy class

What can I say about professor Hays, He's one of the best professors ever, knows what he's doing, very nice, helps you alot. He even puts time to go over your essays with you one on one. Lots of positive energy in his classes. Overall you won't regret taking his classes.

Overall, Professor Hays is a really caring teacher. He puts a lot of effort trying to get to know each of his students. However, I was not a big fan of peer reviewing on essays, the grade they gave me was the grade I received most of the times. The grade in the class was based off of essays, the midterm and final. No extra credit.

Took the 8-week course and it was a little harder than I expected. But he's a great professor gives good feedback, only 1 midterm and final (same as midterm), uses current events as topics. Overall this class was great

He's a nice guy and has some interesting things to say, to be sure. However, I'm not a personal fan of peer reviews. I want his professional opinion and feedback before writing a final essay, not some from the person next to me. The majority of all exams are True/False, and he doesn't use blackboard so going through, you don't know your grade.

Spends most of the class time self promoting his website/other jobs. Loves to talk. Speaks in Spanish to Latino students who speak fluent English... Like, why? Makes students peer review the essays and gives you the grade that you got in the peer review. Bottom line: Easy teacher but you will not learn anything.

genuinely good person. very funny, I didn't expect to enjoy the class as much as I did. will call on specific people in class. participation necessary, but fun. typically 6-14 A's per assignment. midterm and final multiple choice, but make sure you do the reading for them. He has one major flaw though: his handwriting is illegible!

Hays was a great professor who doesn't assign much work at all. When he assigns his papers, the class basically has a good 3 to 4 weeks to complete a 5 PAGE ESSAY it is a breeze to pass this class.

Really hard grader. Gives you hope for a good grade before he grades the final essay and then gives you a bad grade. Not clear on what he wants from your essays. You think he's a good guy and then doesn't give you a chance to improve.

Hays's class is super easy! I mean not too easy but lets be real, not bad for an english class at all. He's pretty laid back and really tries to help his students out. There's really no lectures. He tends to use real life situations or texts from literature to guide discussions. Go to class, participation matters for your grade

His eight week course was interesting and helpful. Group editing that I really liked because it let me find out what i had to improve on my writing. He reads essays and gives good feedback on what to improve on. He puts mistakes that were common in the class essays on the board explaining how to fix it. Don't worry there are no names. Entertaining

One of the best teachers I have ever had! He is a very well-educated professor who knows what he is talking about. His essay prompts keep you interested. I was never an A paper student, and professor Hays taught me more in 16 weeks than most teachers in my years past. Take his class if you want to work hard and enjoy an English class!!!
