You want a class that pretty much requires you to have a pulse and at least a functioning IQ? Then take geog 178 with Sean. I came to class everyday with my headphones on, and they never came off. Unlike most gen ed profs, Sean understands that most students could care less about the subject, and therefore doesnt make you bend over for your grade.

(Fall 2018) Dr. Hartnett is my favorite UWEC professor. If you take this course, take it with him. He's extremely passionate about the environment and about teaching. There are a lot of group projects and there is a lot of busy work, but it's overall a fairly easy class. At the same time, I really learned a lot from this class. Highly recommend!

Seans a nice guy, but his lectures are painful. He is incapable of staying on a single topic, he slurs and/or makes up his words, and his grading system is psychotic. Easy to get a good grade though.

Sean is just an all around great guy who is really passionate about conservation. His lectures got kind of boring at some points but he tried to keep everyone engaged. You do a lot of small group work and most of the time it isn't graded. The homework wasn't difficult. He gives a study guide for exams. Be prepared to write a lot for the exams.

Sean is a great professor that really wants all of his students to do well. Sometimes his lectures can get boring, but he's a nice and funny guy which keep them entertaining. There are lots of projects in this class, but none of them take too much time and they are all done with a group which definitely helped.

Dr. Hartnett cares immensely about his students as well as the subject matter. Group project heavy but they weren't graded. We had a textbook but I didn't read it aside from before the midterm, but I also have prior knowledge on environmental science so would recommend reading if you don't. Midterm and final are short responses.

LOTS of group projects and small presentations, definitely not very hard because he gives you all the information that will be on the test. Lots of work but mostly all very easy. Takes the entire time talking but what he talks about isn't too important.

Class was just taught for the first time since the 80s and had no clear objective. Hartnett is very knowledgable, but failed to relay it in a way that was impactful on students. Class consisted of two projects that we had all of class time in lab to work on. Show up and do the simple projects and you'll pass no problem.

Sean is an amazing teacher. Yeah, the tests are really long because all you do is write. So be prepared for hand cramps and what not when it comes to be test time. Otherwise he is a really good teacher, even though the class itself is a little dry.

Sean is the man. He is the craziest guy I have ever met but that's what I loved most about his class! Lectures can get a little boring but well worth it. There are a lot of projects and presentations to do, but they aren't bad at all. The tests are also extremely easy, they are mostly opinion based. I would HIGHLY recommend this class!

Sean is awesome! He really cares about the environment. The class is mainly group projects and listening to random facts. You don't really need to study for the tests

Sean's class can get pretty boring, but so not skip. He takes attendance every class and pays attention to who is there. It is hard to get lower than a B in this class, but like i said if you skip you may not do as well. Not a ton of work outside of class, when there is stuff it does not take that long.

Professor Hartnett is awesome! Although the class can be very boring, it's extremely difficult to get less than a B in this class. Class consists of two tests (Midterm & Final) and the week before he emails you a study guide. The study guide is nearly identical to the test, so there aren't any surprises. Overall, I would recommend taking Hartnett.

Professor Hartnett is a super nice guy. Overall, a very easy class. There is very little work outside of class, most of the assignments are short and simple group presentations/projects. The midterm and final are short answer based, but he tells you exactly what is going to be on the exam.

HE DOES NOT REPLY TO EMAILS about homework or any email I have ever sent him I never received a reply nor did he come up to me in class and address me about an email. Graded on showing up and work in group projects. Doesn't command the attention of students. Sends test questions ahead of time for midterm and final.

He is so passionate about his work, study, and lessons. It really shows through in his lectures because he is so knowledgeable about geography. He cancels quite a few classes because he travels around the world randomly during the week. Does every project with small groups and they are very casual/informal. He is very sweet and it is an easy class to take that won't overwhelm you with work.
