Best professor I have ever had but his class is ridiculously hard to follow. Must read to do well on tests but extra work is needed to get an A.

Excellent class. His explanations of contentious issues (Israel/Palestine, etc.) were lucid and unbiased; people who are blindly partisan will always find fault with anyone who doesn't agree with them completely.

Comment:
He is ridiculously intelligent but very hard to follow. The class is presented in outline form and though he loves details on the test, the only way you can get details to fill in the outline is through personal research. Unless you enjoy studying for hours and memorizing every term relative to Middle Eastern &US Foreign Policy you'll be miserable.

Akhavi is by far the BEST professor at USC, especially in the polisci department. he treats his students with respect, like his equals and is by far the most intelligent professor i've ever had. this class, as well as all his classes, require some work and i wouldn't recommend them for non polisci majors, but they have been the best ive taken.

Mid East Foreign policy professor Akhavi...This man is a dangerous Anti-Semite. He is a typical elitist liberal professor. He brings his personal bias into the class room and slanders the nation of Israel every chance he gets. Fact check everything he says and do not be afraid to challenge him

Okay so by far the hardest poli sci class I've ever taken. I learned SO much though. Prof Akhavi is maybe the smartest man I've ever met and treats his students like his colleagues which at times can be intimidating. The books were hard to understand and just the sheer mass of information is daunting but if you're up for the task it'll be worth it.

One of the most intelligent professors I've ever had - thoughtful and erudite. The class isn't easy, and the tests can be tough, but I've never had trouble asking for clarification If you put in the effort, you will get a lot out of this class

Akhavi is an expert on the subject; being in class with him was an experience because of him incredible knowledge. Aside from one very complicated and hard to read text book, everything about this class was enjoyable. I would recommend this class to anyone who has a serious interest in the Middle East.

Professor Akhavi is a great instructor! He cares about his students and cares about the success a student has in his class. He can get long winded at times, but very interesting class. He is extremely knowledgeable and doesn't treat students like their ignorant. Every professor should aspire to be like Professor Akhavi.

The mans bio speaks for itself. This is a proffessional with extensive experience and passion in his field. To pass his class you will learn about government and have an outstanding proffessor to help you get there. No one in the department comes close.

his lectures are boring and lengthy, he puts things on exams that be barely touches on in class. he is very knowledgeable and passionate about his subject, but if this isnt your major, good luck, you will be lost. too much reading and ground to cover here

Professor Akhavi is very passionate about political science and is an all-around knowledgeable guy. He has a wonderful personality and is pretty approachable. Unfortunately, he assigns too much reading and his lectures can be a bit too much to take in.

Prof. Akhavi treats his students like his colleagues rather than inferiors, and as a result this cultivates an environment where students strive to live up to his expectations. Also, the man has an encyclopedic knowledge of just about everything.
