Comment:

African Americans in Paris was an amazing class and the best I've taken at UF. We wrote 5 papers, but I learned a lot about the black experience in Paris and the differences in American and French racism. We went on some awesome field trips in Paris and Dr. Austin was very knowledgeable and nice.

Comment:

I went to Paris with Dr. Austin as part of the African Americans in Paris class. It was the best class I've taken at UF. We wrote papers before we went to Paris for spring break. I learned a lot about the topic. She is very helpful and knowledgeable about the topic. I highly recommend her and loved going to Paris. She is a very nice lady.

Dr. Austin's class is incredibly easy, yet very informative. She teaches in a straightforward, concise manner and respects her students more than almost any professor I've had. Attendance is somewhat mandatory, but she's incredibly lenient. Easy A if you can write a decent essay, which is what her tests are completely comprised of.

Rude, sends RA to show movies in her place AT LEAST once per week, says to email her with questions and gets back to you late at night right before deadlines, unclear, disinterested in teaching, and didn't even come on first day of class. Avoid. She is the worst professor I've ever taken at UF.

Dr. Austin is a great professor. She genuinely cares about her students and she consistently helps us gain real-world experience(she always tries to get us to apply to internships/fellowships, etc)...and she is neutral when lecturing..you have to do work of course and know your info(exams are in class essays)

Very interesting class. Discussions were hilarious. I was impressed with her ability to remain objective and encourage everyone to speak regardless of their views. She really enjoys the topic and spends time investing in her student's future by giving them information about internships and scholarships.

Awesome class. I wish it fulfilled gen. ed. requirements so more people could know about it. We discussed a lot of policy issues and read/summarized basic gov. info. It was interesting because of the discussions and her interest in the class. She seems to really care about her students and goes out of her way to help them.

No complaints except one: The class materials do present an obvious bias. Many times, she focuses on one side of an issue, and presents that as the truth. She does not do a good job masking their views. Conservative students be warned. Also, many of the issues she presents are not related to federal govt.She focuses too much on state social issues.

Dr. Austin is great. I took her for POS2041 and it was enjoyable. The class consisted of 3 exams each counting for 30% of the grade and attendance/participation counted for 10%. Her exams are very fair--mostly based on lectures and very little came from the book. I would take another class with her again. Highly recommended.

Definitely one of my favorite professors. One of the only ones who can present very contoversial info without any bias at all. Her classes spark great discussion, are fun, and you learn a loT. I would take her again in a heartbeat!

Comment:

I took the presidential inauguration seminar from her. We went to DC for a symposium on the media and the presidency for 10 days, to historic sites, and to Obama's inauguration. It was an amazing experience that I'll never forget. She worked hard to put the trip together and help us when we were there. It was a lot of fun and I learned a lot.

Dr. Austin is an awesome, nice professor. The black politics class is the most interesting one I've had at Florida. Times passes quickly and she is committed to helping her students find internships and scholarships. If you're a polisci/prelaw major, you'd be crazy not to take her class or just meet her. She truly cares!

Race, Gender and Politics: Interesting subject matter. Class revolved around class discussions She's an expert in this field, and I wish she'd done more lectures. The few that she gave were very informative. I would have learned more from her directly than from the musings of the other students. She's nice, approachable, and an easy grader.

Excellent Class. I had little interest in this topic, but the information and discussions were good. I can tell she enjoys what she does for a living. She makes all of the students feel comfortable and keeps in touch with many after they graduate. Very friendly and caring.

Comment:

Easy class. Discussions keep class interesting. Dr. Austin shows she really cares for her students by announcing scholarship/internship opportunities before class. Study the lecture notes and read the readings and you should do fine on the tests. Some complained that the class was too focused on social issues and not government structure.

Cultural Diversity was a great class. Discussion was the best part, there's never a dull moment. Lectures are interesting, she usually shows a film or has a guest speaker. The test is pretty horrible, you look at it and wonder when you went over that material. I suggest reading all the assigned chapters and online readings. She doesn't tell you tha

This class is VERY easy. The exams are a piece of cake as long as you copy everything she puts on the board (not much), go over your notes, and read the reserve readings. I used to study for this exam the day of. BUT watchout, the paper is a HEADACHE!
