I didn't enjoy his class nor did I learn much. I stopped attending at some point because I wasn't learning much. It seems that he only "picks" Algorithm topics that interest him while ignoring other important ones. I am not in the class to learn what he does for research in maximum depth Please save your precious time and take it with someone else

I took Algorithms with Prof. Sriram. All his materials literally ALL is taken from Professor Jeff Erickson (a prof. from Urbana Champaign). Help is very little since all that he presents is not his work so when you ask questions he is confused. He is a very busy professor who wants to do research and I guess on the side he has to teach

This was an advanced course in Distributed Systems and Algorithm. A lot of emphasis was given on Distributed Algorithms but it was totally worth it. Mostly a theoretical class and uses advanced concepts of algorithms. Would totally recommend this course who is interested in research in Distributed Systems and Algorithms.

He's a great guy and a good teacher. His hw is very challenging but if you work through it and go to this office hours you will be set for the tests.

Very positive professor with a pleasant teaching style. Some assignments are just for fun and as long as you turn something in you will get credit. She was very understanding about some health issues making my attendance difficult.

Homeworks are long and difficult, however they generally relate to lecture. Tests were manageable for the most part. Overall, he was a good teacher that wanted to make sure we understood what he was teaching. He does assign some problems from the textbook (along with some of his own problems) for homework.

Comment:
Have him for algorithms, he's a good teacher who really cares about students. Homeworks are long and difficult but they're only every 2-3 weeks so it's no worse than a class with easy weekly homework. Tests are far more manageable than the homeworks.

He makes Algorithms so much more manageable and understandable! Truly cares about his students and has a good sense of humor. Classes are always interesting and informative. Homework is tough and time-consuming so don't procrastinate but the tests are much easier than the homework.

Comment:
The course was tough for many students, but he did a great job of getting them introduced to CS. He genuinely cared for how well we understood the topics. Though the assignments and projects can take a long time to complete, I think Prof. Pemmaraju taught effectively; if you have to take Comp. Sci. I, I'd definitely recommend taking it with him.

He is very helpful in office hours and his exams are fair. His assignments are very time consuming so if you start late you will not get them done. Overall he is a good professor.

Comment:
Although his class is a lot of work, it is very rewarding in the end. Exams are fair, but projects and homeworks are time-consuming. If you have a good work ethic then you will do well. If not, you probably shouldn't be a programmer anyway.

Projects are excruciatingly hard as he does not give starter files. Had to teach myself everything. Exams and homeworks are not too bad if you understand the topic.

Comment:
Had him for CS1. Tests were ridiculously hard. First test had an average of 58% and had questions on topics we never covered - he just assumed we'd "apply out knowledge" and figure it out. For those saying he helps prep for CS2: he teaches CS1 in python, which you will NEVER need again. I have friends in CS2 that think my homework is hard.

Comment:
No textbook or references, and often his lectures didn't relate to homework/projects. When you ask a question, he just reiterates what he just said, which doesn't help at all. The homework is demanding and requires a lot of self-teaching. I ended up dropping the class in hopes that I'll do better with another professor. If you can, AVOID Pemmaraju.

Comment:
Sriram is a very arrogant professor. He encourages questions in class but then once a question is asked he is EXTREMELY condescending. He makes assignments far more difficult than necessary (currently investing 65+ hours into one project). He is currently under ridicule by university for making things so difficult. Do not take class from him!

He has a tendency to make things unnecessarily complex. Not helpful in office hours, TAs do a better job. One of the worst professors I've ever had.

Pemmaraju is a very tough professor -- he pushes his students, and those that take up his challenge and really apply themselves learn A TON. CS 2 was a breeze because of how much Pemmaraju prep'd us. His lectures are very interesting and useful. Learned more from his class than any other.
