Comment:
EASY, sure he drones on about unrelated material, but if you don't get an A in his inst160 class something is wrong. For one, his tests are exactly the same as the review sheets he gives. His paper guidelines are not hard to follow, he tells you how he wants the paper structured and he is overall an easy grader.

Dr. Gatlin was outstanding and truly an interesting character. I found him to be insightful and those of you whom think otherwise- do not appreciate intellectualism. Thus, you might want to find another calling in life- work at a McDonalds perhaps?

Comment:
For a website that lists 'easiness' as a rating option, I don't expect academic opinions out of most commenter here. Those complaining about Dr. Gatlin being 'drony' are simply the non-intellectual type who probably shouldn't be in college anyway. If a word's too big for you, or a theory is too complex, look it up. Dr. Gatlin is a great Professor.

I had him for and entry level history class at 8 am. If the time didnt throw me off his teaching style did. His tests arent hard and the reading he had you do arent crucial but having to sit through his lectures are brutal. He always seemed so spaced out and most of what he was saying wasnt useful. Nice guy, bad prof.

I dont even know where to start with this guy. He is one of the most spacy people I have ever met and to say that he digresses is very much UNDERSTATING it. His lectures really dont enhance the reading he makes you do and to be honest you wont get much out of his teaching. Very nice guy but one strang human being.

After three cources with this prof I would say that he is good, however be prepared for a tagental class that will go in a very broad range from goethe to the beatles.

Gatlin is such a terrible teacher. If he does know what he is talking about--you'd never know it. The class is easy but nearly unbearable and really, a huge waste of time, effort, and money.

Ridic. This class was ridic. I came into this class really wanting to write a senior thesis in history even though it wasn't required. This prof. quickly sucked out all my enthusiasm for the project. I should have known he would do that because of my previous experience with him. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame one me

Dr. Gatlin can be very hard to follow and a bit overwhelming. But he is a brilliant man and, if you get to know him, a very good-hearted fellow who is great to have philosophical conversations with. But take initiative and TELL him when he's not making sense or his teaching techniques are a bit too disorganized for you. He'll help.

Liked to go off on tangents that made no sense and were often extreme exagerations of facts. Nice guy but was very boring at times. Papers weren't horrible, but weren't all that easy, topics weren't too clear.

Boring at times, but overall knowledgeable. I would advise against taking him in the morning, but he ONLY teaches in the morning. Not my favorite prof, but I've had worse.

gatlin cracks me up with his obsession of the beatles. but his lectures are the most important, and his papers are easy if you've paid attention. he can get kinda drone-y, but he's a good guy

Dr. Gatlin is very intelligent, so he's sometimes hard to follow. But his papers aren't difficutlt, and he loves to talk outside of class. Altogether, I find his class discussions enjoyable, especially when most are early classes.

a decent pick for an STV prof... keep up with the reading and pay attention in class (mostly the latter) and you'll be fine. i really enjoyed his choices of texts and movies. he cancelled an exam and a paper for our class, that was nice too.
