Comment:

Best math teacher I've had. Understands that we weren't math majors for a reason and made statistics relative to other disciplines. Also cares about his students! I had to withdraw for medical reasons and he e-mailed me to make sure everything was OK and encouraged me to take his class again!

Here is the deal, if you have an easy major and want to spend all your time doing math HW take him. Yes homework is once a week but it takes a good 4 hours to do. The tests are right from the class but worded differently so it can get confusing at times. But he is a great guy and always willing to help.

Awesome professor, easy class, i hate math but Short made the class fun anf interesting, gives you a week to do assignments and you can email him your homework and he will tell you whats wrong so you can get a 100%, test are the exact same as study guide for the test, optional work makes this class an A for anyone with a brain

He wants you to learn. Explains things In depth. We use three main Programs...Statcrunch, SPSS, and Excell. When learning new material he goes over each technology a different day. Homework once a week. He does takes point off, and if you dont ask why...you may have gotten jipped, but he does this to make you think! Great Teacher

Excellent professor!! He makes statistics very interesting and very useful. You will never (at least, that is what I hope) forget this class! THe class is somewhat challenging because you have to be very precise. Homework once a week..but it can take the entire week to do it. He is lots of fun and work :D. Take him!!!!!

worst teacher i've ever had in my life. all he does is tell stories about his family. does not teach stats at all! has favorites! Takes off points on the tests and doesnt even tell you why hes doing it. He never does examples in class. Just throws letter formulas on the board and tells irrelevant stories. Book doesnt help. Awful class/prof. AVOID!

I hate math.I thought I'd do horrible. I got an A. "Easy" but you have to work for your grade. Required homework. Do optional homework - it helps. Don't recommend to anyone who is taking another prob&stat class after this one b/c you won't know how to write out equations, etc. He uses a computer program for everything making is SOOO easy. Awesome.

One of the best there is. Helpful,funny, and right on target. Although he makes you work for your grade. Gives optional points but not bonus points. He's great i'll take him for class any day. Great JOB Dr. Short and hope Jack Sparrow is doing fine :D

This man is one of the best profs i've ever had. I was never good at math & he taught it in "lamens terms".He made class so fun at 9:15a.m. Tests are right from review sheets, which he goes and there is only one math problems of hmwk per night.Gives out prizes for most improved, best test score.etc.

Simply put, one of the best teachers at IUP. Period. Before him I couldn't imagine actually doing well in a math class but he puts it forth in a way that makes it easy to understand and you actually walk away having learned something. Stats can be pretty useful too!

If you are taking prob stats, take Tom Short! He's super nice and gives tons of extra credit with homework. His tests come right from the review sheets and he makes class really fun and doesn't take math too seriously. I loved this teacher, even at 9:15am!

Dr. Short is one of the best teachers I have ever had.. I actually hated math and anything that had to do with statistics before this class. He made class fun and I ended up liking to learn.
