Comment:

I have taken other writing classes before, I feel that professor Freeborn's feedback helped me recognize the areas that I need improvements. My writing is still a work in progress, as English is not my first language but at least I know how to edit my essays. Pay attention to his feedback and you will not regret it.

Comment:

Prof Freeborn was great! The lectures are fairly boring for WR2101 but that's just because the content is pretty boring (most just grammar stuff). He goes over practice quizzes which really help for the actual quizzes, and he gives A LOT of feedback on essays. He legit writes an entire single spaced page of feedback which helps a lot.

He's not a nice person. He picks on students and gives large amounts of work compared to only having one class per week. Lectures aren't that helpful either; just him reading notes off the board. He's very monotone, so lectures are very boring. I had a guy in my class take a nap and he did not care at all.

He will catch you if he hears the slightest mumble during his lectures. Can't read any of his writings so his feedbacks are useless. I don't get why he feels the need to take up 2 and a half hours a lecture to go over commas.

Freeborn's alright. His lectures are boring and he doesn't come off very confident when he speaks, so it's difficult to pay attention.

Freeborn takes time and gives a lot of feedback on your writing. I was not an excellent writer when I took his course. I read his feedback and made changes to my future assignments and feel much more confident when writing now. Take his class. Two years later, I saw him at the Grad club and he still said hi! Huge impact on my undergrad

Comment:

His class can be a bit scary, but knows the English language better then anyone. Goes into great detail to explain grammar. Very helpful if you are unclear on structure of your essay. Also gives a typed page of comments when returning essays, which give advice and explain your mistakes.

Prof. expects you to meet every single little criteria that is mentioned. If you do not do one little thing, expect your mark to be crap. Also, even if you've met all the criteria, expect ur mark to be crap as well. Marks everything in 1 day, and terrible explanations to why you did bad.

Made me cry and contradicted the textbook. I wrote my final report (which was two weeks worth of work, crammed into one week because he never gave us the topic. Wrote an online test and never received a mark for it even after multiple emails.

Professor Freeborn was mean in e-mails and had a very strict criteria for online forums (you were required to respond three different times every week). His marking was also very inconsistent and did not give constructive criticism. However, I received a mark I was content with, but that was after being ripped apart during my final paper

He has no interest in helping his students become better writers. He does not put in more than 10 minutes marking an assignment. He puts no thought into his email replies. He cannot justify his mark to you. He is not approachable. Avoid.

Great class - engaging and interesting speaker. learned alot about writing. He gives great feedback on assignments so you can see your strengths and weaknesses. Since taking his course I only get A grades on my essays now. Very helpful prof and course.

Great professor, always willing to help and address individual questions. He gives a HUGE amount of feedback which truly helps improve your writing. Plus, he's got a great dead pan sense of humour if you're into that sort of thing

firstly, his work in comparison to other sections is marked very difficultly. The way in which he speaks of the work is very pretentious. Boring class, very hard to stay focused, do not feel as though my writing is improving as I just feel like getting it over with. would definitely recommend switching out if you are put with him.

Don't take anything with him as a bird course. However, he will teach you a lot. He's a tough marker and can be very rude if you're talking/not paying attention. he's very snappy and will call u out in class. he's not consistent with what he wants from your assignments (will say one thing, and then mark it wrong)

On the first day of his introductory writing class in the most serious face I've ever seen and voice I've ever heard this is what he said. "IN THIS CLASS YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO WRITE, YOU WILL LEARN PROPER USE OF THE SEMI-COLON AND THE COMA". Messed up I know.
