One of the best conductors I have worked with. If you work hard in orchestra, he will go out of his way to help you succeed and find professional gigs. Lazy students will not like him as his expectations are high.

This guy is rude, invasive, and insulting. He makes mean comments at inappropriate times. I had to put up with him in orchestra and unfortunately, he was my academic advisor as well. His wife sucks even more!!! What a couple of jerks.

Dr. Joiner had his work cut out for him with his string players, IMO, when I got there. He dug his heels in and taught their faces off. By the time I had graduated the orchestra was significantly improved. Kudos to you Dr. Joiner! Besides, one of my favorite sayings came from him "You know, you've got a hitch in your get-a-long". Love him!

It's evident that Dr. Joiner really cares about the music we play. Don't be afraid to talk to him; he's a normal person and treats his students as people too. (The only issue is that sometimes his directions are confusing.) If you take orchestra seriously, you'll probably like him; if you don't take it seriously, you won't.

He can be intimidating, but he cares about his students. If he can sense enthusiasm in you, he'll want to encourage you, even if you're not a great player yet. He's performed all over the world and conducts pretty much every orchestra in a 100-mile radius, so I'm not going to be offended if he gets to pick the music and *gasp* tell us what to do.

I like Dr. J. He's funny and he asks you what YOU think about the music. He will assign you a lot of work but also cut you some slack when you have too much work to do. However, I would never go to a lesson unprepared.

Dr. Joiner is very knowledgeable about music and encourages students to study different styles of music for the instrument. Sometimes he comes across as being a little harsh. Practice regularly and show up and you'll be fine.
