I don't know why other students rated her badly, i personally think that she is a great professor. Just don't skip class and you won't find this class difficult. Bring the books to class all the time, or it's useless. She helps me on pronunciation and her explanation of rules and such are very clear. Giver her class a shot and PAY ATTENTION!!

Great professor. The book is a must. Fairly easy if you study the vocabulary. The quizzes are pretty easy. Might not look easy to talk to but she is and tries to joke around :). Very engaging, make sure to come prepared and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I wish I had her for JAPN 100B!

Books expected the first day of class. Study the vocab the most! No need to go to the language lab since the book has a CD-ROM. She's funny at times and her lessons come directly from the book, so bring it to every class. Sign in sheet for every class. STUDY FOR THE TESTS! Quizzes are easy. Role play is easy too. Stay on track, don't fall behind!

Excellent teacher. Very engaging in her lectures. Study well and come prepared so you'll be able to understand what she says in Japanese. She's very funny and amiable. She does seem to expect a lot from her students, but that's understandable since learning a new language is completely dependent on the effort put forth by the student.

I took so many classes of hers and none of them were either helpful or interesting. She is a boring and has absolutely no-strategy for her teaching practice. She depends heavily on the textbook in an ineffective way. Shea literally starts off from where she left in last class?s text book page.

If cal state la had a bigger japanese program, I would recommend anyone to take other professors classes just to avoid her class. Nothing was helpful in class and her hw are just tedious and useless. Definitely you can tell that she does not do anything to make the class interesting and meaningful. She Just read the book for you in a very monotonou

I took this professor for Japanese pop culture. This professor is a waste of time. She is unclear on her directions. For instance, on the essay she took points off for my lack of a works cited page, but the directions did not say that one was required. In a different instance, she took off points on the midterm (to be continued in next post)

Fine professor and pretty simple exams. Very organized lectures, probably becasue she has been teaching for 20 years. Emphasized application, so we got to practice speaking a lot. Pleasant and jokes around sometimes. Did rush through the verbs and many people got lost, though. I learned a lot. Highly recommend her.
