If you think it'll be a breeze. It's not. One of the most difficult courses ever taken at USD. Pure memorization Sanskrit quizzes every week (its 2019- and we still have these?) Tests are incredibly difficult, she expects so much (harsh grader). 2 Research papers with 2 temple visits Sunday mornings. If you work weekends, good luck. NOT LENIENT...

Grades papers and tests rigorously. Is unclear about what is expected and classes are disorganized and unproductive. You are expected to learn most of the material outside of class. One of the most intelligent people I have ever met, but this does not translate to the class structure. Almost like she does not believe teaching is worth her time.

Took Tsomo for Buddhist Thought and Culture at USD. She is a very abnormal professor. The key to passing the class is to study the key terms weekly, she gives weekly vocab quizzes. The tests do not reflect the material covered in the book exclusively, it also covers lectures and discussion. Her lecture notes power points are vague, do not help.

Ironic that a subject incorporating peace of mind and calmness (Buddhism) would be the most stressful, hard and downright crappy class Ive ever had. Buddhism itself is amazing but this teacher is horrible. Her workload is crazy and clearly this lady is just a downright psycho.

great lady, very vested in students lives, helpful in office hours, with papers and studying for tests. tests are very hard but shes always gives study guides. be prepared to work hard but learn alot. TAKE HER IF INTERESTED IN BUDDHISM...great oppurtunity to study with someone who really knows what shes talking about.

Study abroad in India class. She assigned SO much work, graded hard, and was not understanding of student needs. I enjoyed listening to her lectures, but she is overly demanding, as if her class is the only thing you are working on. Not recommended.

Dr. Tsomo is a wonderful lady. Her class can get boring sometimes and she requires a lot of reading everynight. You can only miss her class three times until your grade drops. She tries to make it interesting by doing field research reports and having guest speakers.

Tsomo is a great teacher. Taking her class is just an experience in itself. Her main lessons are lectures, she know a lot about the religions you study. Test preparation is demanding but it's possible to get a good grade. By taking this class you experience more of the religions.

Tsomo knows everything about every religion. She is straightforward in her lectures, and there is a quiz for each religion that is taught. You have to memorize the vocab words for each religion, and describe the main beliefs. It helps because when the final comes around, you know all the vocab and beliefs, etc. very strict but great teacher

wonderful class, sweet, knowledgeable (duh) teacher. Do not have to be buddhist to pass (what the heck, to the above person that said that...)...great to expand the mind into new ways of thinking, not unrealistic in work amounts. Reasonable, eager to help, warm personality.
