Comment:
I had professor Percy for Roman History at LSU 1965. He was an inspiration for my own academic career. I remember him as a brilliant scholar and dynamic lecturer. Also memorable was his public opposition to the Vietnam War, and s fight against campus censorship of Playboy Magazine in dorms (of all things; handing out free copies on campus).

I had professor Percy fresh to UMB from LSU. His knowledge of ancient history was immense and his lectures were spellbinding, centering on the relationships between human nature and decisions made by historical figures and the actions that followed. It was impossible to keep up with note taking and not get lost in the story. REALITY LECTURE 1968

Poor guy got sick half way through, but I was doing "okay" grade wise. I am sad he is sick, but he was a bad professor. Misogynistic, and routinely sad that women aren't as smart as men. He tested us on stuff that wasn't in his lectures and his assigned readings were impossible to follow either the books or online. Nice guy otherwise though.

This guy is a weirdo he maybe knowledgeable and non-pc but his delight in Greek "intergenerational" Love and hatred of women is distracting and I am a guy. He is creepy and southern sliminess that you expect from a john waters film. Do not take a class with him if you have trigger issues

Percy is great..really smart, complex I learned allot. He exposed me to some great information and materials. Don't take anything he says personal, he wont remember saying it anyway. He is really old, hate to say it but.. he may die soon, soak up the knowledge while you can. He is helpful to.

Not afraid to speak his mind, and half of his lecture will be about irrelevant nonsense. When he does actually talk about the course subject, just pay attention and take notes, and you'll be fine. There's assigned readings, but I never read a page of them and still pulled off a good grade. Easy class, no matter how much he tells you it's hard.

Very offensive and oppinionated professor who is rude and demeaning to students. Lectures lacked structure, were very dull and hard to follow. Very comprehensive exams, no paper. Required textbooks are unnecessary as the exams tend to be broad topics in the subject. Bad attitude, I would recommend he keep to his subject, less personal opinions.

a great professor. his opinions are not absent, so don't expect a "politically correct" lecture. his knowledge on his subject matter is great. a senior professor with great insight to critical aspects of ancient history and how it pertains to modern issues.

Most students on campus has heard of Percy in some shape of form. Finaly a prof. who is not caught up in the whole PC thing, he will say it how it is. His classes are interesting and informative. I've learned more in his class than any other AND there are NO papers! Students of history should benefit from his classes.

Brilliant. I took as many classes with Percy as possible. It was actually a pleasure to attend his lectures. His leanings are exactly what that brick heap bastion of trumped-up Marxism needs - i.e. he is an intellectual who is serious about history. Weak minded nimrods who care about nonsense need not apply - you waste everyone's time.

(Class # might be wrong). Defines the word "eccentric" as he is full of paradoxes too numerous to list. Sometimes completely deviated from subject to go on a rampage about some issue/politician that/whom he hated, but usually stuck to subject and gave thorough, though simplistic black and white lectures. Very tough tests!!!

Awful professor. His lectures do not help on the test. You have to guess what will be on the test he doesn't tell you anything. Just a brutal expirience, I think he's insane cannot relate to him at all. I got a B in the class but I would contribute that to good guessing on what was going to be on the test.

Prof is terrific...Extremely intelligent + challenges his students to think. Will say things to provoke a reaction + discussion...For this reason he is often misunderstood by the less- intelligent who think he believes these statements because he repeated them. Even though he will always say 'well, I don't believe this to be true!' Easy classes = A
